I had saved a nestling wood pigeon from my garden. The tree (silver birch) was too high and the nest destroyed in storm. It’s sibling died shortly after I took it in.i fed thjs pigeon on a hand mix formula by Versele Laga together with smooth porridge mixed with water and raw egg. The pigeon thrived whilst under my three day supervision.
I called the RSPCA and I was informed that any wildlife place would kill the pigeon as it was classified as vermin. I have placed faith in south east Essex wildlife to raise this bird under specialist care. I realise I do not have the best facilities to rehabilitate the bird as it gets older. It’s parents are still in my garden I was planning on reintroducing the nestling once it had become a fledgling.
The attendant didn’t take any real notice of the birds weight or size for its age and just placed in a very large box; I am very worried now that my concerns may come true as the poor bird will be euthanised; I do hope I am proved very wrong. I am more than willing to pay for its care and rehabilitation, if you plan on euthanising this bird please let me know and I will collect the bird immediately. I do hope I am able to phone not every day or week but maybe have an update on the bird brought in today when it is fledgling and finally when released Into the wild. Collected some geese and ducks from them and a really great place. Will certainly try and help them out in the future. Was very impressed with the facilities
Took 3 Cockrels from me because I thought they were Chickens, lovely place and I felt better leaving them there as I had grown attached to them and all they ask is for a donation, they also rehome animals so if you are looking for a pet contact them and give one a home.
Amazing little rescue centre.
We took a clutch of ducklings there today, the lady was very informative and friendly. The best place for the poor little chirpers to be. Will save their number should we ever need them again. Thoroughly recommend.
