Beautiful ????.
The Ohlone (pronounced Oh-Lone) Regional Wilderness Trail is a 28 mile trail with around 8,000ft of elevation gain the runs from the Stanford Ave Staging Area in Fremont to Lake Del Valle in Livermore.
There is untreated water every 6 miles or so as well as backpacking areas.
Two Peak you will cross are Mission Peak and Rose Peak.
You need a $2 permit to go past Mission Peak.
The trails are very steep for most of the nearly 3 mile hike to the top. There is very little shade so plan ahead and cover up or use sunscreen and bring plenty of water. The views at the top are awesome but there were a lot of insects flying around making it hard to be still and enjoy yourself.
Great scenic hikes! Many paths to choose from, you don't even need to go all the way to the top to enjoy the hikes. Pictures taken in the morning looks markedly different from the ones taken in late afternoon, so come on different days, different times, and in different weather conditions to get a wide variety of scenic photos.
Mission peak is a really good hike nearby. Since it is unshaded, it is a little tough in the summer during the day but very much doable after work.
Proximity to one of the main highways the bay area makes it a popular destination for hikers. As you can guess, this makes it a little hard to find parking nearby, particularly over the weekend, so definitely plan to go early.
This one time a park ranger told me they ticket people who would finish their hike after sunset or the closing time poster art the gate, i haven't seen anything like that happen though.
The view at the top and along the way is breathtaking.
