“This is an outstanding music school for string instruments. We have been with Göran -- the Director of the school -- for 11 years and have two kids studying with him. The school has two chamber orchestras ("regular" and junior) with violins, violas, cellos, and bass. The Academy puts on frequent concerts and recitals as they consider performing to be an essential part of musicianship. We drive our students from Walnut Creek and others come all the way from north Berkeley to be taught at the Academy. This is really a gem of a music school in the East Bay. The school uses the Suzuki method of teaching. This pedagogy works well and is renowned world wide. Though we have followed the repertoire in the Suzuki books, the kids have played many pieces that are not in the books. In addition to classical pieces they also get to play fiddle music.
