“I do music composition and production for a living and first met Matthew when hiring him as a session musician. I quickly realized that he would be a great teacher to help me get better proficiency with guitar and also teach my 8 year old son. I took lessons with my son for about a year and really love Matthew's approach to teaching. I stopped after gaining some tools on guitar, and my son has been working with him for going on 3 years. Excellent in presenting ideas, and takes time to tailor to individual needs. He also has a very strong theory background and applies diatonic theory in his lessons early on. He also teaches melodic reading, not just TAB, which is very important for Jazz band playing. Excellent guitar teacher, and great person to be around!”

“Our two children just completed their first year at Tehiyah,, and I joke to everyone that they had the best year of their lives. Though we live in Oakland (and therefore have a 20+ minute commute), we chose Tehiyah over our local elementary and other local private schools for a number of reasons: 1) A simple joy that permeates the school. One need only to visit the classrooms, walk through the halls, or attend one of the school's many celebrations (like the Purim Carnival) to see how happy the children seem. 2) Creativity and experimentation: At Tehiyah, at least in the earlier grades, the children seem to learn by doing, from hands-on projects (like designing, creating, and then parading a very large Chinese dragon for the Chinese New Year) to scientific inquiry (will a paper clip sink or float? how do plants grow? Let's find out.) I will say if your child is artistic, the art room is simply AMAZING (and there are after-school classes for the older grades that include sewing, jewelry making, etc.). 3) Community: Though as a family we've only been at Tehiyah a year, it seems as if we've known some of our new friends forever. It's a very creative, intellectual, warm, and bighearted group of families. A few things to point out: some of the classes are imbalanced gender-wise, which I guess can happen with smaller classes. A few perks to point out as well (though they cost extra): The hot lunch service is wonderful (lovely and varied meals, with different options, like gluten-free or vegetarian), and a school bus service goes through Berkeley and Oakland. Overall, a very nice school.”

“We have had our two kids (ages 1 yr and nearly 4 yrs) enrolled at A Child's Place since May/June and we have been delighted with our decision. The quality of care, open communication, and flexibility/understanding that Cherysse and her team have are exceptional. The space is lovely and I can honestly say that everyone there truly enjoys spending time with kids. It feels like a loving home, which it is! We feel very fortunate to have found A Child's Place!”

“I can't say enough positive things about Tati's Family Daycare (Tati Pereira's Childcare) in El Cerrito. Our son just loves it there. It is exactly the type of warm nurturing environment you could dream of for your child. Her home is clean and safe. It is a warm calm peaceful environment. In the morning they draw and paint and in the afternoon they play outside in the yard when the weather is nice. She cooks the kids amazing healthy lunches and snacks. It's a very homey environment, she has two great kids of her own. To me the most important thing is Tati genuinely LOVES the kids. Genuinely. I feel like we won the lottery when we found her.”
