Barrel Springs Hiking Trail

“For Palmdale it is a cool hike with many views. Little off trail tails to discover! Many cool rock laying all over. It was a decent trail over all. Hilly not just up and up and up. Lol it has just as many downs. Horse take this trail as well. Picture is of the so called cool rock my boy decided he could leave without but left in my truck. Plan to return them on next trip. Keep the wild were it was.”

“Cool fire road that goes past two open pit mines. Watch out for 18 wheelers on the week days!!!! They use the road to get to the mines so stay out of their way and go slow around the blind corners! Bunch of spur trails for all types of recreational activities. Only issue is the Forest Service has all the adjoining fire road gated closed so no good OHV loop trails just out and back. But at least we have this bit that is open. So go see it it’s beautiful!!!!!!!”

Angeles Crest Christian Camp

“What an awesome experience our campers had! The best thing about this place is the staff. They are absolutely committed to Christ and to what they do and to top it all off their team is amazing. Excellent customer service before, during, and after our visit; they're very personable, willing to answer questions, and very caring. I am bringing our kids back for winter and summer. Looking forward to it already---and so are our kids!”

Devil's Canyon Trailhead

Address: Angeles Crest Hwy, Palmdale, CA 93550, USA

Park

“It’s a lot better than I expected. I was there shortly after there had been some decent rainfall, so there were quite a few streams with watercress growing in them. The falls are really beautiful. It’s strange that the city is so close, it’s a great way to escape the rat race. We went all the way to the bottom of the canyon, and of course going downhill was not difficult. Hiking back up, on the other hand, was a bit of a challenge for someone who isn’t a seasoned hiker. It was worth it, though. The further down you go, the more beautiful it gets, and you see things that you don’t expect. I recommend this trail, but as I said previously, going downhill is easy, so know your limitations , because the hike back up gets kind of hard if you don’t hike on a regular basis.Devil’s Canyon is a great way to spend a day (and it will take you a day to go to the bottom and come back up, unless you’re really athletic) reconnecting with nature.”

Messenger Flats Campground

Address: Palmdale, CA 93550, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“Plenty of space to set up camp. There is a restroom area, which is really convenient after a long day of hiking/backpacking. That being said, be a little careful because it can get quite windy up there in the evening.”

Silver Moccasin Trailhead

Address: Unnamed Road, Palmdale, CA 93550, USA

Park

“There are very nice hikes from this trailhead. To the North, you'll head uphill through forest and the trail will lead you first to the Chilao day use area and then further on to the Horse Flats campground. To the South, you'll end up in the Charlton Flats picnic area and on to Vetter Mt. The trail to the South is also a nice hike but is still mostly damaged by the 2009 Station Fire. The Charlton Flats picnic area was spared from the fire and still has many trees. This trailhead is within walking distance to the Chilao campground and makes for nice hikes on your weekend camping trip :)”
