(November 19, 2018, 2:05 am)Service is great, but remember you're paying for the ambiance and view, so don't come looking for value. I've only had the basic tea service, but they have a good selection of teas from Art Of Tea, and everything on the cake stand is pretty good.

(October 8, 2018, 1:01 am)I love having afternoon tea here...teas are lovely. Ambience is fun and super easy going but can be bourgeois if you want to dress up...best part is the beautiful grounds after or before tea. (I recommend after so you’re not all sweaty before afternoon tea)

(August 6, 2018, 2:15 pm)Afternoon tea at the Huntington Rose Garden Tea Room was slightly better than "okay." Been here a couple times, first when it had the buffet option and recently with a more traditional 3 tier platter presentation. The food and tea were good and filling and they accommodated my gluten free friend. The ambiance is still quite casual and not as fancy as my usual afternoon tea outings. I wasn't super impressed when they had the buffet option as an afternoon tea spot, but was excited to check it out again when they removed it. I found the second time around to be just as casual as the first. No explanation about the different tea choices on the menu or how they sourced it. Also, no run down of the various sandwiches and pastries on the platter.
I would not make a trip here just for afternoon tea. If you're already planning on being at the Huntington Library then for sure make a reservation or stop by. There are vacant tables outside of peak times (11-2p). I'll likely only visit the Tea Room again if I wander by and they have open tables.
Oh, slight annoyance: The waiter offered option of flat or sparkling water. I got use to having sparkling water as complimentary along with flat when it's offered at a few restaurants in LA. Didn't think much about it until the bill came with a $9 charge for sparkling. Just get the flat water.
