“I went to the restaurant years ago. I remember how nice the staff was, and the family vibe it had. The inside is so cute! It makes you feel like you are in Italy! The waiter was very nice, they even moved us to a table that was away from a loud party. So my friends and I could have a nice evening. “Honda-ya does Yakitori really, really well. The staff are amazing, especially Leo, the host is always super caring and kindhearted to my elderly parents who are regulars. The atmosphere is VERY Japanese, lively, and always crowded, so expect a wait. On a recent early Saturday evening visit both my mother and I were surprised to find that the rice was sub-par and not fresh tasting. Otherwise, it would be a five star review!”

“I fell in love with this place! Combucha selections were nice. But the clam chowder that is dairy free and gluten free was amazing. The hard combucha was strong enough to get a little buzz. “Fresh as fresh can be, flavors explosively big and yet balanced. A want-to-try-everything place that is comfortable and affordable enough to make that dream an achievable reality. Some specifics: each piece of Toothpick Lamb had that perfect BBQ tip texture: crisp edges, tender inside. Juicy Steamed Chicken was refreshing, like a cool salad-chicken, moist with skin on in a light vinegary sauce. The Boiled Fish Fillets in Chili Sauce were my fav: buttery pieces of fish so fresh and so perfectly cooked, it just melts in your mouth. That chili sauce is so good—and ample—the people I was with said they regularly take what's left in a to go container, buy fresh fish at the 99 Ranch, and use it for another fish meal at home. The last dish (can't remember the name) had tender ribbons of pork belly—at first I thought it was a tidy pile of wide cut noodles!—never had anything like it, the richness and big flavor, would totally order it again.”

“Yelp Reviews: Quarantine Edition #97 A solid sandwich but perhaps not worth the premium. Sometimes you just want a sandwich. I was on the Santa Ana-Tustin border and this came up on a quick Yelp search. Scanned the menu and 2 classics stuck out: the Ultimate Patty Melt and the Reuben. Asking the cashier which of the 2 is more popular and the cook chimed in and said I should get the Patty Melt. Instead of just a burger patty, cheese, and grilled onions, the Ultimate Patty Melt also had Boar's Head bacon, avocado, tomato, and Thousand Island dressing. Pretty dressed up for a Patty Melt but I don't know if it's $12 good. What I do like is how they give you a oatmeal cookie-Snickerdoodle thing along with your sandwich. That, along with a Yelp Check In deal for a free Juicy Peach Iced Tea, makes it worth a return visit.”
