“My kids and have been studying at Journey for about two and a half years now. They have progressed from white belt into various colored ranks at their own individual pace. The instruction is based on acquiring and then mastering skills at each student own level without any pressure to test. Testing is actually included in the monthly fee; it's not a separate charge. If one of my kids has not been ready to test then they have sat out a testing in order to have enough time to acquire and/or fine tune the skills required for their next rank. As a parent I have been both included and consulted at each step of my children’s study, even to the point of being given "homework" to do at home to help master skills. The program includes instruction, sparring (after attaining a specific rank) and self-defense. I would highly recommend Justin Sigler-Smalz as a teacher. He is continually working on his personal skills, both as a 4th degree black belt and as an instructor. He is sensitive to his younger students (and the older ones too!) making sure that he tailors his instruction to specific age and maturity levels. The curriculum is designed for both "traditional" tae kwon do and real world application. I'm confident that if my kids needed to, they would be able to defend themselves using the techniques that they are learning. Justin inspires a spirit of excellence in all his students and I would recommend him without reservation to anyone, at any level, with an interest in martial arts. If my children are in need of special training to prepare for their testing Justin and Andrea and Mr. Smalz have helped my children reach their goals. They have helped my son and my daughter progress with confidence and coordination immensely in a very short period of time.. It has been very impressive... Best decision I ever made for my daughter and my son... I would highly recommend Journey Martial Arts for everyone.”
