Lots to see and lessen. Definitely an underappreciated gem.
The museum is located on a hill so you may overlook San Diego. If you are in the area and have 2 free hours I highly recommend visiting.
The dedication and hard work of the veterans working at the museum in Balboa Park shows itself everywhere. Veteran volunteers give their hearts and souls to remind us the reason why our country is so great and to help us never forget the price we continue to pay for our freedom. A definite must visit with the kids.
The gentlemen that greeted us was very nice and informative. However the two younger workers were standing around blocking the entrance to one of the rooms even though it was open. They were too busy having a conversation about how the military isn't worth anything.
Absolutely inspiring! It was founded by veterans and all its artifacts were donated. As they received more items, they decided to make display cases and eventually reached where they are now. They have artifacts from many wars all the way from WW1 to today's conflicts.
The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park was chartered to serve five categories of function: Serve as a museum presenting permanent, rotating and visiting exhibits of patriotic, military and war-related memorabilia, artifacts, photographs, and other artwork.
