“2022 Food Truck Month, Part 2 We caught up with La Cocina Del Abuelo #1 at the corner of Grand and Linda Vista in San Marcos, California. We found a total of 6 food trucks in that location during our visit leading us to dub this spot the “Restaurant Row of Food Trucks in San Marcos.” Their menu emphasizes “birria” dishes and offers a surprising number of items (including ramen and pizza options). In all honesty the burrito we sampled was of better quality than what most restaurants have to offer. Not surprisingly it was very fresh, but it was also quite flavorful. Although many of their orders are to go, there are a few folding tables and chairs available if you’d prefer to eat there. “I had ordered my food via grubhub and was planning on picking it up. When I had arrived I don't think they had the food quite ready so I sat at the bar and decided to have a drink. I changed my " to go " to dine in and ate everything there. The beer was good, the drunken noodles were great, and the owner (I assume) gave me some egg rolls which were awesome. I'll definitely avoid grubhub in the future and just casually dine in.”

“I really wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars, but as time passed and going through the different courses of our dinner, it went a bit downhill. First, on a positive note: this restaurant is really chic with a beautiful view of the ocean and friendly staff. Appetizers and drinks were good enough to keep them at 5 stars. However, main dishes started to make this questionable. Scallops were great but the rest were so-so. While the dishes were well plated and colorful, synergy between the ingredients was missing! The deal breaker was the dessert!!! Again, well presented but man it was bad. It’s really hard to get a dessert this bad. The chocolate desert was bland and the tres leches was BAD (how could you?!). This restaurant definitely has potential but they need to rethink their menu with food that deserves the great ambience. Maybe next time will limit our visit to just drinks and appetizers ;)”

“This place came highly recommended so we went for dinner on a Friday night. There was no wait because we went at 8:00 p.m. but the place was still packed. The owner and husband of the head chef greeted us while we were eating and he was wonderfully kind. Everyone who helped us including our server was so fast and efficient and friendly. Pumpkin curry, the salt and pepper shrimp and the garlic pepper chicken. Everything was incredible. I've been to many different Thai restaurants and this was exceptional flavor! “The birria is really good here. The carnitas is raves about but it has a very porky flavor too it that was a little too much for me. The red salsas are great, not a huge fan of the tomatillo, it has a strange consistency. The chips are very fresh and not greasy, which is nice.
