Joann C. Chang Studios

My husband and I have been taking lessons with Joann for a year, and we have been truly enjoying her lessons. She is effective, loving, flexible, and patient teacher, with such a beautiful vocal! I took voice lessons from two teachers before meeting Joann, but it was only after I began taking lessons with Joann that I became able to sing falsetto! We are going to continue taking lessons with her although we are moving out of the area.

Joann has been providing piano lessons for our 6 year old.

In just six months, he has progressed to where he can now play music for his sisters and regularly heads to the piano on his own :) . He is typically quite nervous and resistant to learning something new, but Joann's gentle and reassuring approach has boosted his confidence and inspired Johnny to love the process and see the results of his efforts. He has even started to write notes out to some songs!

I found Joann C Chang while searching on the internet. I spent a couple hours trying to find someone to help me choreograph a dance for my wife at our wedding reception. From all the people in the Bay area. God guided me to the right person. Joann an I worked together on the making of what has been for me one of the most important things of my life. She proposed the plan to achieve what we wanted and scheduled the sessions. She was always open to making adjustments to our schedule and was always taking close attention to all the small details. After 4 sessions, we had the ready the dance and I went back to my Island to perform the dance we created for my wife. Joann was remotely there, she reached out and was excited as me, knowing the day to perform was close. It was an awesome experience, the way she taught me gave me the confidence and strength I needed to go out and perform as I wanted to do for my wife. I will forever feel blessed that God led me to Joann, I really appreciate all the work and heart she put on this dance we worked out together.

I play piano and could have taught my son myself, but nowhere near as well as it has turned out with Joann over the past 2 years.

1) For beginners, I love the variety of learning styles she uses. Everything from learning to read music to ear training. Scales done in a fun way, and exercises, music theory, and well-known songs.

2) As he progressed, she would identify his interests and expand on them. Like if he started playing a song for fun on the side with just the right hand, she'd say "that's great! why don't we learn to add left hand chords to it and make that part of your lesson!" She has him figure it out by ear and then write out the notes.

He loves learning the classics out of the book she recommended and playing it for family has given him a sense of pride and confidence in music and performing.

I sit in on most of the lessons and love how patient she is with him, how she lets him ask questions, and how she softly reins him back in when he gets a little distracted. And when he gets frustrated, she is able to help him take a breath and try again. I would recommend her to anyone!
