I was on my way to a construction job in California, so before I went to the job, I called a friend named John, who was the head motorcycle mechanic for the CHP Academy in Sacramento California, where he worked on Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki motorcycles. John gave me directions how to get there, as he also had a custom motorcycle shop at his home in Wilton California. I arrived, as he showed me around the large shop, then we talked for an hour or two. Then he asked if I might like to go for a ride in a pursuit Mustang, to which I replied "Are you kidding"? He made a call to one of the driving instructors, then a few minutes later, a Mustang which had an 8-point roll cage, a 5-point seat belt, loud mufflers and what sounded like a cammed-up engine came pulling up to a bay door of the shop. John introduced me as his friend, and told the instructor I would like for him to take me out on their test track for some high speed driving. So, he got me all secured with the seat belt, shoulder harnesses and submarine restraint belt, then off we went. I remember asking, on the way out to the track, how fast it would run, as he replied, "Well, let's go find out". He asked if I was afraid to run over 100 mph, so I replied, "Would you like me to drive"? He laughed. They have a high bank track, as we got up to 135 mph, then he said he would show me how to reverse directions, but little did I know, he just turned the steering wheel at around 100 mph and did a 180 degree turn, and we were headed from where we had just come. Then we did some pursuit chasing of another car for a couple of laps around a road course, as I remember thinking, this is a job I would LOVE having! For me, this was a once in a lifetime experience, a guy from Georgia, to experience something so unique in California, that I never would have thought would have been possible. This driving instructor knew his skills, and knew them very well.
Why am I the only one here?!?!?!
We were fortunate to have a tour of this academy today with Timothy. He was a great guide and showed us the rich heritage of the CHP, some of whose officers have paid the ultimate price for their service. It was a moving experience to see the deep respect paid to the fallen officers and their families during parade. Thanks for your time today Timothy, it was great to meet you and the other officers. Regards, Peter
What an amazing academy! Very well organized institution. The cadets/students were very respectful. The tour we received was very educational and thorough!

How many miles are run daily in the CHP academy. I have heard most academies don't go over two miles in their running but have heard CHP does much more running. Can anyone tell me what the CHP academy physical training is like.
