Cinderella Motel

Address: 110 San Felipe Rd, Hollister, CA 95023, USA

Lodging

“This is a very cute, family owned motel. The buildings are pretty old but the rooms inside are fairly up to date, and extremely clean (tile floors instead of carpet helps with that a lot). We stayed there after our RV site was washed out by the March 2023 rainstorms (don't worry, the only thing we lost of value was a fancy gas grill😀 Speaking of grills, the motel has a pretty nice gas grill and picnic area in the parking lot, and the pool looked very inviting, though it was a touch too cold to really think about using them. Oh, and the Cinderella is also dog friendly! Though be aware that if you're not, the owner does have a couple dogs of her own that she keeps in the back, and when they're out, they are a bit barky. That said the one dog I actually met while checking in was super friendly, and very excited to meet new people! All in all, if you're looking for an inexpensive, but comfortable place to stay in Hollister, I highly recommend the Cinderella.”

Boulder Group Campground

Address: Mill Creek Rd, Angelus Oaks, CA 92305, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“Had a lot of fun with my group of friends here. The road to get here is a bit rough though. About a mile or two of dirt road to get to the campsite with lots of rocks. A FWD can make it up, just have to drive really carefully! Definitely would bring an SUV or Truck if you can though. Once you get to the campground though, you and your group will be far enough from other campers not to really be bothered by anyone. There are lots of trails you can explore yourself just by walking around the campsite with lots of shade. *Be warned though, we did see a bear both mornings we were here. Make sure to take advantage of the bear boxes provided.*”

Omni La Costa Resort & Spa

Address: 2100 Costa Del Mar Rd, Carlsbad, CA 92009, USA

Lodging Spa

“This was my first, but hopefully not my last stay at the resort. I was at the resort for business and stayed 4 nights. I arrived around 7pm on a Sunday. The valet and check-in experience was smooth. My room was very clean and the temperature was perfect. Finding a soaking tub in the huge bathroom was a great bonus. The only complaint I have is regarding a slight odor in the shower. I think it was coming up from the drain, not from the water. Room service was easy, prompt and the food was hot. The coffee at Marketplace was delicious and there was a good variety of non-alcoholic beverages. I want to give a shout out to the bell stand and the valet. Their hustle, friendliness and unwavering devotion to customer service, made my visit even more pleasant. I will definitely go back!”

Greenhorn Mountain Park

Address: 9665 Old State Rd, Alta Sierra, CA 93285, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“A beautiful campground in the hills near the Kern River. Our group camp up for 3 nights to escape the heat down in the valley. The campground sits around 6000 feet so it's easily 20 degrees cooler than down below. The campground has flush toilets and hot showers. The campground doesn't see too many visitors and is a little gem in the hills. I'll definitely come back!”

Waterman Gap Trail Camp

Address: Skyline to the Sea Trail, Boulder Creek, CA 95006, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“Nice overall forested hike if that’s what you’re looking for. There weren’t many overlooks with views of the landscape (at least on my trail route) also this trail camp is right by a road so diminishes a bit of that secluded feeling if that’s what you seek.”

La Casa del Zorro Resort & Spa

Address: 3845 Yaqui Pass Rd, Borrego Springs, CA 92004, USA

Lodging

“Overall I loved my stay here, it was very peaceful and rejuvenating. It was like staying in a rustic desert inn with spa features. I wound up getting a Casita with a private jacuzzi, which was so nice! I loved having it all to myself and it was very privately walled off from other guests. It was about 120 degrees f outside so it was literally like being in a sauna, so I had the heat turned off but I still loved it. Because it's so hot the resort is mostly empty this time of year. I also had the main pool to myself at night. I got a hot and cold stone massage which was divine, and the restaurant food was very good. The room itself was clean and comfortable, though it was definitely rustic and dated in design. Plus there were a couple big dead bugs in it. Great water pressure in the shower though! The restaurant was only open for breakfast and dinner, but they have a little store that stays open so you can get food there any time. The resort is in the middle of nowhere so I didn't try leaving the resort to get lunch. Because it was the off season for this location it was affordable and overall really good value for the money.”

Sierra Hot Springs

Address: 521 Campbell Hot Springs Rd, Sierraville, CA 96126, USA

Spa Lodging Health

“Wonderful place. We drove up, checked in for our day pass, and then enjoyed the main pools for a couple hours. Sauna is excellent with steam option. Showers readily available. Clothing optional of course! The temple dome is magical and the hot/cold circuit is really fun and relaxing. You can smell the minerals! A beautiful view. Currently there is some construction going on near the meditation pool but it didn’t take away from the peace. Definitely worth a visit!”

“We moved in December of 2019, just before the pandemic hit. It turned out to be one of the best decisions we have ever made for our selves. Our home is older but well maintained and still has a lot of good years left in it. When we purchased our home, management worked with the realtor to make the transition as easy as possible for us. Our neighbors are very pleasant. They are friendly, and will wave and say hello every time they see us. The overall feel of the park is genuine kindness. There is access to a swimming pool, a spa, clubhouse that has a kitchen, library, billiards/game room, laundry facilities for all residents. There is even a clothing facility where you can donate clothes or go to get different clothing. This park takes care of it’s seniors. During the pandemic, on two separate occasions the owners had groceries delivered to every home in the park, paid for out of the owners pocket. There is a bread delivery one day a week and grocery delivery one day a month. They have donuts and coffee in the clubhouse one morning a week, classes for different things, fun activities, movie nights, book club, and they are always looking for ways to make improvements in the park that won’t put a financial strain on the residents. They even have a monthly newsletter and spiritual services. I have lived in a lot of different places in my life and I can’t think of any place I would rather be than Golden Palms. Whenever we leave, I’m always happy to come home.”

Woodcrest Hotel

Address: 5415 Stevens Creek Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95051, USA

Clothing store Lodging Store

“Walking into the lobby of the hotel, you get an older feel to the establishment. My wife said it reminded her of an old hotel in London - not unpleasant, but clearly a more dated style. The location is excellent, directly next to a variety of stores and immediate access to the highway. I found the staff very attentive and welcoming. Going up to our room was where we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms appear to be recently renovated and had some nice cabinetry in the bathroom. More importantly, the room and bathroom was incredibly spacious, almost on par with what I would consider a private suite. There is a nice large window to let in natural light from the courtyard, but a set of very dark blackout curtains are available for the late mornings, keeping the room pitch black. There really was no noise or disturbances to speak of, despite close proximity to the major road and highway, so I’m assuming the rooms are well insulated. No noises from other guests were noted either. Not sure if it’s a regular occurrence, but the hotel staff put out a COMPLIMENTARY huge welcome basket of snacks and drinks that lasted us well into our 3 day stay! In this economy?! A small but personal touch that we appreciated. Overall, the hotel is not necessarily cheap, but you definitely get a great experience. I would take this hotel over a traditional hotel chain any day, and look forward to staying again next time I’m in the area.”

“My grandma has lived here for over 10 years, it is a beautiful park. We love to walk down to the lake where we have seen geese, turtles and deer. Make sure you have your badge because residents will question why you are there. Management has gotten strict on the residents, trying to control family visits among other things.”

“If you like a Reuben and don't go to this place, you are cheating yourself. And, the garlic fries are delicious. Then you can wash it all down with a nice cold one. They have a surprisingly nice selection of beer and wine. You can sit outside and enjoy the air. It has a nice small town or farmers market vibe going on. A great place to relax on a sunny weekend and the kids have plenty of grass and space to stretch those legs out.”

Shade Hotel Redondo Beach

“The Shade was a very beautiful and relaxing hotel. The service at the hotel was extremely friendly(aside for the restaurant "sea level", see my reviews statement for that restaurante! All in all the I would love to come back to this hotel in the future, maybe try out a different location. The best and my most favorite enjoyable moments was in the tub, that was located on our private balcony. The tub is outside people!!! Yeaaasssssss What a great set-up. See pictures I have provided. “We had a great time and will definitely revisit for a longer stay. RELEARNING to camp was exciting and fun, even with the hiccups we faced. Make sure you bring enough blankets, it gets cold at night... sleeping bag rated for 30 degrees was not enough for me... smiley face. Night skys were beautiful.”

Nira Campground

Address: Sunset Valley Rd, Los Olivos, CA 93441, USA

Campground Lodging Park

“A nice REMOTE campground. Be warned if you are expecting all the amenities in normal campgrounds, there is no running water or ranger station near by with firewood. The road on the way up is one lane, narrow, and part of it is unpaved getting there is not meant for all vehicles. Other then that it is a nice campground with great hiking trails, really takes you out of the city. I recommend this campground, but do come prepared if not a seasoned camper.”

Pendry West Hollywood

Address: 8430 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, USA

Lodging Spa

“Great hotel. Wonderful restaurant, rooftop bar, and ground floor cafe with bakery. Service is wonderful including room service. The chicken noodle soup that I ordered at 11 pm arrived piping hot in the room. Facility was clean throughout. The bathroom was gorgeous. We also enjoyed the beautiful bar next to the hotel lobby. Really wonderful stay. Our room was very comfortable with a view of the hills; it was quite a challenge to leave the comfort of the room to explore LA. Convenient to the Hollywood Bowl and the various museums. The Comedy Store is across the street from the hotel. Also love the glass/mirror sculpture in the lobby. Thank you!”
