“I have been going with Jan for almost 3 years now and he is absolutely the best music teacher around !! he is very kind and friendly and easy to get along with. he is very patient with you while learning something new. “Dr. Seth's extensive and credentialed background in classical guitar, jazz guitar, musicology, and session and live playing, gives him a uniquely effective approach to teaching guitar, that connects practical exercises and techniques to music theory. I, like doubtless many hobbyists, have played guitar off and on, self-taught, for many years, and on the odd occasion that I would commit to long hours of self-guided practice, I would experience some degree of improvement on my own. But without any guidance, I was also developing sloppy and unproductive playing habits, and I wasn't developing a sense of musical literacy, which is important to me, since I want to be able to write my own music. It hasn't been until my lessons with Dr. Seth that I've made the kinds of meaningful strides that I had been looking for all this time. Dr. Seth takes into account my past experience, my musical interests, and my personal goals, and by connecting the instrument to the theory, I have improved in both playing and musicianship. He's the real deal; there are no shortcuts, and the results I get between lessons are a direct result of practice, but now, I have excellent guidance.”

“There are two preschools housed on the Turnbull campus -- a fee-based mandarin immersion school and a state-subsidized English speaking preschool. This review covers the fee-based mandarin immersion school. Our daughter attended Turnbull for the second half of her Pre-K 4 year (she is now a 1st grader in the school next door) and our son is in his second year at the school (in Pre-K 4 after completing Pre-K3 last year) and we couldn't be happier with the education they received/are receiving. We wanted an immersive mandarin speaking, play-based and not-too-academically-intense environment for the kids. Turnbull is great -- from the administrators to the teachers -- we've found everyone to be caring, conscientious, and enthusiastic. The teacher-student ratio is great -- there is a main teacher and two assistants for each classroom of 18 to 22 students. I like that there doesn't seem to be too much turnover since consistency is so important in challenging programs like dual-language ones. My daughter and son had the same wonderful Pre-K 4 teacher -- and I'm hoping my youngest (2 years away from attending) will also have her. She, and the other teachers I've interacted with at Turnbull, are very dedicated to their students and I've always felt that I could go to them with any concerns I may have. My son loves going to school. The school year is arranged around weekly units where the students learn mandarin in context. Occasional field trips, regular music and movement classes supplement the day-to-day activities. Every year there are three or four performances where the kids show off their singing skills and classroom work. There is some character recognition lessons, but from what I've seen it's low pressure and meant to enrich the language learning. Overall, we are very satisfied with Turnbull. The only caveat is that both the Principal and the Enrollment Coordinator are retiring this year. Hopefully, they'll be replaced with equally great people, but that would be the only question mark I would have going forward.”

Update: My daughter just finished her first school year in 2021 and what a difference a few months just made. She came out of her comfort zone and has socialized much better than before school. Her knowledge and vocabulary have expanded along with her confidence and fine skills. I can't thank her teachers enough. Ms. Fe and Ms. Rupati are the stars of the toddler program. They are gentle, truly care and genuinely love what they do. My daughter even said she missed them while being away.”

“Being a student in the school, this school is of course a private school, funded by the students and the sponsoring churches. there are many aspests of the school that should be changed, but there are also many that are great. the small classes allow students to create lasting friendships, with multiple people, unlike in public schools with only a select few. groups are very close and tightly knitted, but many welcome new kids. the academic programs aren’t on par as public schools, but it provides opportunities for students to shine and readies them for college with hard work. the sports programs are solid, despite the need of coaches. some teachers must be removed in my humble opinion, but a few of the teachers are extremely professional and good with their jobs. however, some teachers are close-minded, and some of the faculty do not allow the students to have as much enjoyment out of older events, due to their opinion of safety issues. this school is for those who are looking for a safe haven, close friendships, and a place to express freely about religion.
