“Overall positive school. The principal is proactive and involved, she is working hard to advance her school, and she is by all measures doing a good job. The principal communicates with parents every week on Sunday and informs them of the upcoming week. The teachers are decent too and do their best to give their kids a good education. The school has several programs, activities and events to keep parents involved. The Oak Grove School District is not a wealthy district and at Parkview the kids qualify for free lunch at a rate of over 50% of the population. The majority of the families appear to be working class blue collar, with a few white collar professional parents thrown into the mix. Overall the parents are nice and concerned about their kids. Some of the kids come from single parent homes. A small minority of the kids have behavioral issues, possibly because of the home situation. The demographics are very mixed with Latino and Asian students the majority, then white and black kids. It is a good demographic mix and reflects San Jose and California well. I like the school, my son likes the school and if the parent is involved with their kids education, they can succeed here. Recommended.”

“Night and day! After just a few lessons with Rebecka, I was no longer embarrassed to play with life-long golfers. Her calm demeanor and empathic but confident coaching style quickly turned my game around! I was a beginner at best and now after a few short months, my drives are straight (slices are for pizza and cake - not golf!) and travel farther than I ever expected. Once scared by par 5s, I now look forward to stepping up to the tee box. Rebecka taught me which iron to use when, why, and most importantly how, to best manage distance. Next on the list is my short game and I can’t wait for Rebecka’s guidance. She employs a variety of tools and techniques from traditional to high tech and the balance is just right. Golf is the most frustrating but rewarding game. There is always room for improvement and I leave every coaching session not only with new skills but the inspiration to practice and play. “I took my daughter out of Ruth Musser because of the bullying and put her in Southridge. It took some time for her to adjust. She was so guarded because of her experience and RS, but now she is so much better. She is really in a good place. Her teachers are AWESOME! The counselors and Outreach Coordinator are great and they don't tolerate bullying. I've had two teachers call me when they saw her crying. No school is perfect, but this school good.”

The bonds we formed with the other parents taught me a lifetime of teamwork. Parent Participation is a wonderful concept. Did you Serra was one of the very first and vanguard for other Parent Participation schools? It's not for everyone, because you have to be involved. I am still on PTA boards, for our grand children's schools, a direct result of my days at Serra.”
