I recently purchased a shop model Guarneri fiddle from Royce and I wanted to share my experience with you all.
The lutherie is of very high quality, the spruce and maple wood is of excellent quality and is expertly fitted. I visited several violin shops and Royce's quality is every bit comparable to theirs.. if not better...
The real difference is Royce the person. He is genuine, he wants us to be satisfied with our purchase. He works hard to earn our business. He will treat you fairly...That is a rarity in our world today. When he tells you that the violin shops sell their fiddles for " a ton more " he means it.
His fiddles are a great value..
I could go on and on about my experience with purchasing my fiddle from Royce but all of his satisfied customers say it all.

Royce is a very knowledgeable and skilled luthier. He took a very attractive (but poorly voiced) early 20th century violin with a weak voice and returned it to me a short while later transformed. As it often the case of trade instruments in this era, they needed to look but not sound like antique 18th century instruments. Thanks to Royce's expertise, it sounds the business as well as looking it. Thanks for your amazing work, Royce!

I purchased a regraduated fiddle from Royce at a fair price. He was super easy to work with. When the fiddle arrived I was blown away with how powerful it sounded and how easy it was to play. I started on a middle of the road fiddlerman outfit and that thing didn't sound a fraction as good as the fiddle from Royce. I will say for anyone looking for a fiddle at an extremely reasonable price and a sound that will encourage them to play, look no further. Follow Royce on YouTube and find your sound!

Wanted to share a really great fiddle purchasing experience. I came across Royce Burt from his YouTube channel (see link below). Royce is a wizard who restores and revoices new/old fiddles and has a huge revolving selection. I noticed that he lives about 3.5 hours from me so I emailed him and we scheduled a day for me to visit.

I spent about 5 hours at his house and played dozens of fiddles and twice as many old bows. I left with an absolute gem of a fiddle and bow combination and am ecstatic. He also adjusted the action on one of my other fiddles (which I am unlikely to play anytime soon with the new purchase).

Roy's prices are super reasonable and I cannot express what a nice human being Roy is. My experience had none of that intimidating "used car salesman" flavor that I have often had when trying fiddles at a brick and mortar store. Roy and I played each fiddle and bow together and he gave me his honest opinion (both positive and negative) about each one until I found my perfect combination.

I almost never rate anything online but felt the need to share this really incredible experience with others.

Royce is a wizard. He took my German factory 16” viola and re-voiced into a powerhouse with VERY responsive and nuanced sound. This is his gift: to turn old factory instruments into gold by completing the step that the wholesalers were unwilling to do: to focus his carving expertise for hours. Thanks Royce!
