I graduated 1998 (class #7) when it was YCP. I'm a retired Theology Ph.D. and published author now. It's different now but turning lives around all the same.

This place changes lives. You learn to cope with and succeed in life. It is not for everyone. I remember there were the "big bad, scary guys" that folded like nothing when it got tough. Pre challenge sucked, but then again, it was the suck that really made you. It is voluntary, so anybody can quit at any time. For me it was redemption since I was not going to be allowed to attend senior year in high school for all my problems. I went from doing really bad things to being one of the elected leaders as well as top in academics there. I went on to Join the Army after that and did my time in the Infantry. And yes, this school was harder than basic training. Class of 98-7. Thank you to all those who became mentors to me and helped to shape me into the success that I am today.

Great program. When I was 15 my Mom was ready to kick me out of the house unless I went to Youth Challenge. I went from skipping school every day, doing drugs and drinking, to becoming focused, at the top of my class with ambition, respect for others and discovered my drive. Went on to become a Hebrew Translator in the Air Force. Not an easy program, 1/3 of the kids will drop out due to mental weakness. I was fed more than I could eat, had 24 hour supervision, cameras everywhere, and had great military mentors. There were fights between the hard-heads in the first couple weeks (don't forget there are kids that are court ordered to be there) but if you stay on track you will be fine. Great wake up call if your kid does not appreciate privileges; you can leave at any time. Highly recommend this program.
