IAMSInter-American Magnet School (IAMS) is a public school in Chicago
serving almost 700 ethnically, economically and linguistically diverse
students from preschool through 8th grade. Inter-American School
offers excellent academic instruction and the opportunity to develop a
high level of linguistic proficiency in both English and Spanish. This
nurturing environment engenders compassion, self-pride, enthusiasm
for learning, and independent thinking. IAMS students develop a sense
of responsibility for their local and global communities and actively
seek to use their talents to promote positive social change.
I used to be at Inter-American Magnet School from Pre-Kindergarten/Pre-School to 4th grade. Being at that school, even though I didn't know any Spanish when I first arrived, the people around me (including my friends and teachers) were very friendly and helped me adapt. There is daily homework in Spanish at this school. This was a little hard for me, since I had to read extremely closely to know what to do. In Inter-American Magnet School, there are many fun events. There is also a huge library, and I did enjoy the books :). Soon, I learned a lot of Spanish and could talk to my friends regularly! The teachers and the principal encouraged us to widen our knowledge. Learning Spanish helped me get more opportunities; I will be at an academic center (AC) this year, and I just recently took an exam to place into a level of Spanish. The woman who reviewed my test said I would either be placed in Spanish II or Spanish III (I do not have my results yet). Later in life, I will have more job opportunities from being bilingual- especially since Spanish is a popular language in the United States. Also, there is a big playground, basketball court, and field to play on during recess. I participated in Girls on the Run in 3rd grade, which was fun as well.
Great school overall, keep up the good work!
This school has so far been such a special place for our family.
Amazing school. My 9 and 7 year old attend here. They are learning faster than their previous school. Using two languages seems to be tapping into some serious brain power. The teachers are loving and wonderful and full of energy. Issues are addressed quickly and leave me as a parent worry free.
AWESOME I GO THERE I HIGHLY RECOMEND IT. Teachers there are the best they help you alot soo friendly

I am a former student of Inter-American Magnet School, as is my older brother. The school and multicultural program is very rare in the country, especially with the involvement of parents and volunteers to the degree they promote.
