“I had a very good experience with Tae Kwon Do in high school at Lakeview Martial Arts in Highland Park. All of my classes were taught by the master and owner of the school, with rare exception when he let a black belt teach for their benefit, but did not leave the studio. For 5 years I've been inquiring at Do Jangs (Highland Park is too far for me to go) but finding that they were not Do Jangs as much as they were businesses with a stable of unqualified instructors and overpriced to boot. Master Kim is my savior! He clearly teaches for the love of the art. When I first went in, I kept inquiring about the schedule and he kept telling me that there was no schedule--"just come in and I'll teach you." I kept assuming this was a language barrier issue because his prices were too good to be true and also have a flexible schedule. I took the leap anyway and what was too good to be true is true. I paid for the year and it was less than a lot of gym memberships paying up front like that. Month to month prices are more than reasonable, but the year long price is unbelievable. So far each of my "classes" has been private instruction. I work from 10-8 and have two days off per week, so I mostly just go in on my two days off where he implores me to come in before work and to come a lot more often--and he already has my money! Every punch, every exercise, he does along with me. It is very encouraging. I don't care who you are... if you're an out of shape adults, or an expert, or looking for instructions for your kids. This is the place to go. There is no perfect an example of what one could hope a Do Jang could be. Please read his bio on the website. It is very impressive and you can see that he has a Do Jang for the love of sharing his art and culture--not for the love of business. There's inherently wrong with making money, but it is obvious with Master Kim that that is not a first concern. His number one concern is delivering quality instruction no matter the cost of time or effort to him.”
