“Overland Park must be a jewel in the Botanical Garden area of Kansas. I often go to the garden here and always enjoy my trip. I can always find new content to add to the park, where there are many trails, and different sections of different parks. The lake around the actual botanical garden is beautiful. I always take the time to hike here before. Then you can follow the trails and explore the garden far away. This trail is well maintained and very good. I highly recommend going to the botanical garden and giving yourself time to explore.”

“Nice trails through a rolling park through partial timber and some open fields. Portopotty on site was stocked with necessary items at the time of our visit. Park was basic but well kept and enjoyable.”

“Perfect spot for stargazing. The moon was perfect tonight so we pulled in there about 10:00pm so I could try some night photos of stars and the moon. Its right off the road and perfect with trees and no traffic.”

“I really enjoy this place. Wish the power lines weren't there, you can feel the electricity under the wires if you lightly rub a finger across the bottom of someone's forearm. Neat trick but freaky there is so much electricity radiating off the wires.”

“Grass fields are in pretty good shape for August.”

“This is a lovely little park. There is a shelter with a couple picnic tables. There are two swings (no infant swing). There is a small walking track around the park. Sometimes the water fountain works (late spring/summer/early fall). No restrooms. Pretty basic, but entertaining, playground. Also, a half non-regulation basketball court. Great for toddlers and up.”

“This is one of the best parks! The nature play area, huge spider web to climb, swings, fast slide, sand and the spiral sidewalk to the top of the hill are great! Not to mention the pretty lake and shelter area!”

“This small neighborhood park is freshly built with lots of room for children to climb as well as a short walking trail loop. There is also a picnic shelter and drinking fountains, but no toilet facilities. This is pleasant place to spend an hour or so.”

“Absolutely gorgeous park. I explored only the trails around the south lake, and plan to visit the north lake in the future. On these trails, you feel much closer to nature than at most other urban or suburban parks in the KC area. Heading north on the trail on the east side of the lake, you can look through the forest on your right and see the Blue River and its valley, complete with lots of deer. Then to your left is the lake and its wetlands with the neighborhood behind it. On a cold winter evening, the trails were nearly empty. However, although this place may give you a sense of calm and privacy, the residents of this community are maybe a little too protective of their "privacy". Although this a public park maintained by the city of OP, there is no dedicated parking lot, clearly so these residents can feel that extra little sensation of "safety". And I guess I challenged that precarious ideal of safety for one lady by parking in the empty parking lot for the community pool at 163rd and Ash, for 30 minutes during daylight hours, because it had direct access to the trails. I went for my run and returned to find a Lexus idling on the street nearby, presumably watching me. I took a few minutes to charge my phone in my car before I left, and they stayed there, rather obviously observing my suspicious presence in their neighborhood. When I exited the parking lot, they followed me out of the neighborhood, then out onto 163rd. To be clear, I'm a teenage white kid who drives a new car and lives in "faraway" Leawood. I don't know how much more I could fit in to the suburban demographic. But still, a paranoid lady believed I was somehow suspicious. So, I definitely recommend that you go here. The most convenient parking is at 163rd and Ash. Just don't be surprised when someone assumes your presence somehow threatens the privacy or safety of their sheltered lifestyle in "their" neighborhood.”
