“It's convenient for me. The staff is friendly and helpful. I've noticed that they rotate sales on items in the store (when I opt for items on sale, I can get out at a very reasonable price). The quality of the produce is exceptional. I don't mind paying more for it. All in all, it's not my regular place. But it's great to be able to walk over to grab some odd items. Their co-op membership, however, makes no sense to me. It's one 10% off coupon for each quarter, at a $50/year membership fee. Which really isn't a fantastic deal. It's not appealing to join on those lines. The guy at the register gave me a knowing smirk as I did the math in my head and told him I think I'd pass (so even the staff sees it). I think a manager was behind him though, so he continued to sell it by saying that people will come in and use it to stock up on wine. ...That's a lot of wine... We're talking over $150 in alcohol each quarter to see a benefit in the membership. So I guess if you regularly host large groups of people, or more likely just a DC lush, this would be appealing.”

I have probably forgotten most of what I learned as a child and have some new bad habits to overcome. But Doris is patient, encouraging, and has a teaching style that makes one want to do well. She selects music that is fun and interesting for me to play. Even the skills-building exercises are deceptively challenging and not at all elementary. I am learning to appreciate music as lyrical-telling a story, stirring imagination, and communicating beauty and emotion. But, sometimes I am secretly happy that I have just played the notes! The environment in Doris’ home is warm, bright, and inviting and I am welcomed at the door by her sweet golden retriever, Yum Yum, who knows I will bring her a treat. I am living my dream and am so happy to be sharing that with Doris. When she plays a piece for or with me it is clear that she is a master of all she teaches.”
