“My Girlfriend and I were looking for a lake to walk along for a relaxing afternoon. Unfortunately our GPS stopped working and we got lost on a private road by Lake Angelus. There was an officer doing patrols on the road who was kind enough to help us get back to the main road and he even took the time to lead us to another lake close by where we could enjoy the wildlife and scenery. Being a black man in this part of Michigan comes with many challenges when dealing with police. However, Lake Angelus Police department has my respect after this encounter. I originally started at Royal Oak Women's Excellence. When the West Bloomfield office opened, Barb went there and I followed her even though it was an additional 20min out of the way. I ended up giving birth in the car and my husband was a little freaked out. She stayed on the phone with him for a little and made him feel much better about the whole situation. “Kids swim instructors are top notch and the lessons are affordable. I am not impressed by the lifeguards here. Every one I've seen on duty was talking to other people and barely watching the pool. The giant sign on the wall reminds me to watch my kids (I do anyway) because the lifeguard staff if there for "preventative" measures and not a lifesaving service. I get it. However, I've been to other pools where you're not allowed to approach, talk to or otherwise disturb the on-duty lifeguard. Would like to see that implemented here.”
