Elm Grove Recreation Area

Park

“Since moving to the area 20+ years ago we always wanted to go see the Lights. We were there for the 'Wayne County Lightfest' 2017...this is esp. fun if you have young ones with you...but go on a week night...the VERY long wait killed some of the enjoyment for us. After an hour in line we reached a cross street where the Police who were directing traffic allowed motorists from the other street to cut in line that hundreds of us had been waiting patiently in.....WHAT should have happened is the Police should have directed those cheaters to the back of the line on Merriman...Overall...fun time...but we will NEVER go back on a weekend.”

“I live near here and walk my dog through the woods and fields almost every day. Some of the trails are used during cross country season. It is especially beautiful in the fall, but the spring with many wildflowers is also pretty. There are restrooms in some areas as well as picnic spots. Dog friendly, but please! Pick up after them!”

Merriman Hollow Park

Address: N Merriman Rd, Westland, MI 48185, USA

Park

“This was a great Park. 3 different climbing apparatuses with various slides, toys, and activities. Everything was in working order. There is even a crank toy that makes animal sounds One of the grey climbing strips was disconnected and the bolts removed, but it was still functioning. I would say this park is for older children, as the signs posted in the park indicate. There are several parks along Hines drive, so very easy to park hop!”

Northville Community Park

Address: 15801 Beck Rd, Northville, MI 48168, USA

Morton Taylor Trailhead

Address: Morton-Taylor Road, Canton, MI 48188, USA

Park

“A gorgeous area tucked away off M12. Filled with a ton of different trails, some very well maintained and others weaving through the woods. Many trails can be water covered or muddy if you come around any rainfall, but during the drier season, you should be fine with some boots. Some great views of the River Rouge, and plenty of wildlife including birds, squirrels, butterflies and dragonflies. A few benches along the way to stop if you need. Also, when heading towards Lilley, you can hear the sound of the power lines humming as you pass beneath them. Overall, a very cool, nifty, and enjoyable place to spend time hiking or biking!”

Romulus Parks & Recreation

Address: 35765 Northline Rd, Romulus, MI 48174, USA

Palmer Park

“Palmer Park has a little something for everyone. The first time I came here with my 4 year old son, just at the start of spring, and there were geese with little fuzzy yellow ducklings everywhere! Do not feed or touch the animals(not a petting zoo) but a great place to see wild amazing nature... in the city. there are two parks, a lake with islands and a windmill, super friendly ducks who swim up to you .. dont feed them... leave no trace there are trash cans... there is a cool nature walk through the forest from one park to the other splash pads in the summer and alot of people who love this place. Yes it is in city, yes, there are maybe some things you may not see if you are from the burbs parents.. but hey! it builds character, teaching moments right?... no the fountain doesn't work...but it's pretty cool and the splash pad does work! The playgrounds are awesome. mind the one by the splash pad that spinny chair does go fast. there are tennis courts, handball courts, basketball court, and disc golf course! orchards gardens and primitive grade a Michigan forest... that is fully accessible with a fully paved walking path if one is in a wheelchair or pushing a stroller.”

Shafer Park, Wayne, Michigan

Address: 4322 Randolph St, Wayne, MI 48184, USA

Park

“This is a quiet park. The children’s play structure is in good condition. There is a short path here through the park. There are picnic tables and barbecue pits. The park is along the banks of the Bell Creek and so it is a restful spot. The basketball court is in generally good condition. There is one patch in it but it is still a good place to play. There are plenty of wide open areas for the children to run in. It would be a good place to get a sun tan. There are park benches here (backless) and some very nice picnic tables. There are a couple of standing barbecue pits. It is nicely cared for. It is a convenient shortcut through the neighborhood. I enjoy going here to enjoy Bell Creek and also to take a walk.”
