“As one from Hawthorne, this town seems bare. However, unknown icons like this are interesting insights into the town and the world around us. Right next to the cemetery there is old graves in a forest, also known as the Holland Cemetery, where there are graves dating back 150 years, when the town was inhabited by Dutch immigrants. The Jewish cemetery dates back to the early 1900's. Please be respectful of the dead and of the sight.”

“The Vermulen Cemetery has been a cemetery that has been lost by the town and its people for a long time. At the site, there are several broken graves and tombstones, but the ones that are preserved are quite well. Some of the bodies have been exhumed to Fair Lawn Cemetery or elsewhere, but there are ew that remain and the names read back to the 1850s. On a few of the stones are words writen in Dutch, or a dialect of it. Dont forget though, this is still a cemetery so be mindful of the dead that still rest here and allow them to rest in peace.”
