I literally came her 3x in one week. That's how good the food was. I've had Senegalese 2x before but this is the best I've ever had. 100% recommend.
Vegan bowl is great. Ingredients are similar to Indian food (rice, beans, okra, zucchini), but it's the spices and herbs that set this cuisine apart. I've never had West African food before, and happy I did now. This vegan bowl was rated as one of the NYTimes top 25 dishes in NYC, and I agree/ can see why bc of how different it is from other cuisines you'll have. It's in a large food mall complex (was initially tricky to find).
Setting aside this is the place for the best plate available in The Hugh...
Not taking into account this is where you can eat Teranga's food Monday through Friday, because the restaurant at 1280 Fifth Avenue is only open on Saturday and Sunday...
With the knowledge that this delicious food represents the flavors, tradition, culture, and history of Sengalese (and perhaps West African) cuisine...
There is still another reason to eat here.
That reason is is the team who works here. Shouts specifically to Alessane for plating, hosting, serving, and informing (because we (read: Americans and really read: white people) know very little about African, including West African and Senegalese food) with skill and heart.
Teranga at The Hugh quickly became a frequent destination for me (I've lived in Manhattan for more than 20 years, was born here, went to college here), and it needs to be that for you too.
Really great food. The chicken was so flavourful, the sauce amazing, and it could be had for 16$, even tho it's a nice food court in the middle of Manhattan.
Their juices are also pretty great.
If you're looking for some flavorful food in Manhattan and don't mind the food court, this is your place.
I barely ever give reviews but this food is just so so good I had to. It’s unique, healthy, flavorful and just brings a smile to my face. So glad it opened here!
