  Practical - I was looking for a campsite, so that we could visit NYC on a budget. So glad I located this place. Yes only 7 tent sites. Felt safe & clean. Note this isn't ruffing it, style of camping - You are not in the wilderness, no bears - anything like that, its just close to the city & staff are nice. Its about 20mins to coney island by car - which was a bonus. To get to the big city....simply exit the park, go north for about 12mins, to St. Georges Ferry terminal. Find parking - but ask when the parking lots close up for the night, or you'll get your car stuck unit the next morning. Take the ferry which is free and runs 24h7, every 30mins - takes you direct to Battery park & the subway is waiting for you - very practical.
  Yes free firewood & bring bug repellent. Only negative I found was where you pitch your tent -its on gravel, and that gravel gets inside your tent rather easily

  Park ranger was very helpful and informative.... Her name was Jean...big help....11 year old boys had a great time....it was a unique experience ...HAD FUN

  Pretty nice.. quite, good for a gathering of a small event. I like the fact that there are less people around, no crowds... Peaceful ????
