We feel very fortunate that we found Blue Rock School when our son entered Kindergarten. He is very happy there and we are so glad that he is learning in an environment that values multiple intelligences in their students. The small class sizes allow for a very individualized approach and the curriculum emerges from the student's areas of interest year by year.
The teaching so far has been very strong but most importantly, the approach of experiential learning seems to really work. By exploring a topic in various different ways and through various different hands-on projects, the information seems to really stick. Most importantly to us, our son's curiosity is encouraged, he is given a platform for his questions and ideas, and afforded space to develop creative solutions to problems. We believe strongly that these skills will prepare him well for a changing world where innovation, initiative and hard work towards creating solutions will be particularly important.
I whole-heartedly recommend Blue Rock School to anyone who feels any doubts about a conventional approach to education. This alternative really seems to work. The kids here are confident, well-spoken, energetic, playful, and full of ideas. Take a tour and see for yourself.
My daughter started kindergarten here this year but we have been getting to know Blue Rock School at their excellent info sessions for a few years now and felt familiar with the school before enrolling there. We had participated in school fundraisers like the Fall Barn Dance and witnessed the impressive student-led production of Peter Pan last spring. If you are considering a small-school alternative to public school, come for a visit! You are going to love the philosophy and feel of this innovative learning community!
