Racoon Brook

“Was raining the day we went hiking . I do not recommend if you do not have the right gear as it does become very slippery. The trail we took was steep and had lots of loose soil and rocks. The surprise lake was shrouded in fog but it was rather eerily pretty to look at. Also make sure you are physically fit to do the hike . Some light weight training and loads of cardio should help. Enjoy and good luck!”

Twin Ponds Park

Address: Massachusetts Avenue, Sedge Rd, Valley Cottage, NY 10989, USA

Park

“A beautiful slice of calm, suburban life, Twin Ponds is the epitome of what I loved most about growing up in the hamlet of Valley Cottage. I never caught many fish there, but it was never about the catch. Hanging at Twin Ponds was more about meeting up with friends and wandering for hours within a half- mile radius than anything else. I miss my family and friends when I think of this place. I think of elementary school bike rides, of Halloweens long past and of frozen winters. I think of people I'd only ever seen and never spoken to, never known. I think of returning from the west. I think of missing myself.”
