If you go to your local music store for lessons, more often than not you'll get a teacher that misses or is late for lessons because of a gig, and may only stay a year or two. The Conservatory is quite different. Not that there isn't ever instructor turn-over, but there tends to be a dedication from the instructors that you would normally only find at the university level. If you're serious about getting a QUALITY education, then this is the place to go. All instructors are vetted & back-ground checked just like they do for public schools.
