Polk-Wisdom Branch Library

I ENJOY visiting the library from time to time. Using the computers when they are available and checking out books even the children have activities.

The staff was very helpful, nice... Clean quiet

The librarians are very helpful and my kids love it here. It's very quiet and clean. I'm always able to get anything I need done there.

I love the staff's helpfulness. They are always eager to lend a hand! Free printing and copying make life great! All's well at the library!!

Located in south Dallas, situated near the middle of the triangle formed by the 35E, 20 and 67. Cross streets Polk and Camp Wisdom. The library is easy to notice from the street as it has very distinctive windows facing Camp Wisdom, with rectangles divided into triangles and half the triangles colored blue, purple and red. There's plenty of parking in the lot in back.

To the left as you enter is a whole 20' wall+ of Adult DVD movies (no, not porno) and a section I've not seen before, nonfiction DVDs. The CD collection is equally impressive, as are the DVD TV Series, Manga and Audiobook selections.

Apparently the library has a sponsor because it has on separate display "Comerica Bank Financial Literacy Collection."

The adult Nonfiction is what I consider quite small. The Fiction average to below average for a Dallas Public Library. There are also separate Spanish and Afro American sections.

The library has some modular furniture on wheels. They consist of beech wood sections about 10' high x 8' tall. These are conjoined into small study rooms with open ceilings and doors. Two for adults - one in the northeast corner, one in the southwest.

The Children's section is partially separated from the rest of the library by another one of these constructs; this one in an inverted "U" shape, with very low kid-sized benches around the three sides. There is a nice collection of books and enough space for the rugrats to not feel confined. It's actually beautifully arranged.

As mentjoned previously the entire south portion of the library, facing Camp Wisdom, is lit by floor to ceiling windows. Well, not quite floor. This entire section contains a long series of benches and work stations. Twelve chairs and enough bench room for 25+. There are three tables which seat four each and perhaps a dozen well-padded chairs which are great for lounging but not so much for reading.

Last but not least are the computers: 16 well-spaced PCs which normally see pretty heavy use. The last time I visited (on a Thursday afternoon) the place was almost deserted because the computers were down for maintenance.

A great library for anything other than physical books. The wave of the future, unfortunately.
