“Became a Sam's Club member in 91 and have been to many all over the entire country. Like so many organizations, the individual store is heavily influenced by the dedication, motivation, and leadership skills of the Senior Management. They must attract, recruit, and train exceptional employees, often at a difficult location. Try to get there early enough to enjoy the snack bar. They have their little problems, but they turn out gourmet restaurant quality food at bargain prices. They have better pizza and hot dogs than most of the specialty restaurants in the area. They are frequently swamped and short-handed but always friendly, courteous, and cheerful. I am a fast food junkie, regularly eating at fast food establishments. Although some brands are usually better than others, I have found much more difference between different locations of the same brand, rather than between brands, across the board. Consistency over a long period of time is very difficult to find because of the frequent personnel turnover. It is critical to have really good managers on site. If I owned a franchise I would definitely have a very well-designed reward system in place, to ensure that both individuals and teams were properly rewarded for their outstanding performance. Good loyal repeat customers are the crown jewels of the fast food business.”
