Hickory Creek Park

Address: 1201 Point Vista Rd, Hickory Creek, TX 75065, USA

Park

“We lived at Hickory Creek Park in a Motorhome for 13 nights in Dec of 2021! :) •Pros: Super spacious site (21) -- we felt like we had a part of the lake all to ourselves. This park is super close to DFW airport, so of course, there is air noise, but other than that it was pretty quiet! •Cons: The shore was super dirty! Some of our family came out one day and we decided to glove up & ended up filling three trash bags! •Highlights: We loved the beautiful sunrise and sunset views. One of our beach chairs stayed on the shore our entire stay. Nice spot for those who need to fly -- DFW airport is 20-30 min away! •Furbabies Review: Cookies (our dog) loved morning naps on the shore. •Our recommendations: Please introduce recycling to your facility! The Earth will thank you. Thank y'all for having us! We're off Livin' the Dream with Cookies & Cream. :)”

“My husband and I have been full-timers here for the last 2+ years and we love living here. We looked at a dozen places from Pleasanton to San Antonio to New Braunfels and we definitely picked the right spot. I’m told that Nancy opened the park about five years ago and there are some who have been here from the beginning and I love that about the place. You just won’t want to leave unless you have to. Nancy also offers several spots for those traveling through for only days or weeks. If you appreciate the outdoors and peace and quiet, this is your place. Last night I fell asleep to the owls communicating. There is a family of foxes that make appearances from time to time and a roadrunner that lives around here. Nancy has cattle in the pasture that roam nearby. My bird feeders are overwhelmed year round and it’s hard to keep up with the hummingbirds from April to October. Who needs amenities when you have nature? For exercise we walk the long driveway, the park roads, or the pasture. We are only 25 minutes from San Antonio and grateful to be living out of the city, yet close enough to go when needed. You won’t find trashy trailers here or loud partiers. There are some rules and that too is why we love it. I noticed there weren’t any updated posts and I hope this helps others to consider this piece of paradise. PS…I have no shortage of beautiful sunset pics but these are my favorites.”

“We where going to camp on North Beach but there was a coastal flood advisory so we decided to venture into the National Seashore (US fee area ) . We had to pay $25 which is a 7 day pass (no other option if your staying past midnight). The camp ground was full at Malachite Beach and decided to head to Bird Island Basin! The campsites were 90% Full all with RV’s. We had our tents After driving to the end we saw a very Faint sing that said parking only for day use and tent camping ? There are no marked camp areas for the location but there are canopy’s and a picnic table too close the water! After deliberating with my spouse we decided it was be best to head to the visitors center and verify weather or not we could camp at that location? Once we got there we had to show them the are on the map! They agreed it was ok ! We headed back and set up camp! It was great but very windy and a bit chilly my kids and wife were awesome! I recommend the area just be aware of poor signs and when you enter the park I hope you don’t have to encounter the rude park attendant who took our many and treated us like were stupid! She could of at least smiled! My dream job was to be a park ranger! She looked like she hates it!”

Mansfield Dam Park

Address: 4370 Mansfield Dam Park Rd., Austin, TX 78732, USA

Park

“Well kept and maintained Travis County Park. You do have to pay admission but it's well worth it. There are areas to hike, swim, scuba dive and launch a boat. The boat parking is huge and there is adequate parking for the largest boats and trailers, there is also a courtesy dock. The restrooms are standard public park facilities. The main playground is huge and there are a few smaller ones around as well. There are tables and gazebos hidden along the trails for picnics or BBQ, there are also new pits that are cared for and not in disrepair. I would actually cook food on them. It's one of my favorite parks in the area.”

Pavillion

Address: 600 Spinks Rd, Flower Mound, TX 75028, USA

Park

“The Pavillion at Heritage Park in Flower Mound is quite a large pavillion when compared to ones at other parks. There are two areas of the pavillion anyone can rent, six large tables, two benches and two grills to cool out on. The plus to this pavillion is there is a public restroom, a playground (Fort Wildflower) and a splash pad (Heritage Springs) all with in a short walking distance.”

“Went to this park for a performance of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The park is excellent! Quite lovely and very well kept, the grass was tidy and very soft. The layout of the place was nice and open, The walking path and pavilion with picnic tables were also very nice. The stage is small but cute and well constructed, it worked out great for the performers. if you live close by this park is perfect for an evening stroll, or a picnic with the kids. I definitely see it being the perfect venue for all kinds of events! Even at night the park is nice, with fairy lights spread around the trees it’s well lit and easy to navigate. honestly, I was very impressed, they even have trash cans AND recycle bins! 10/10 in my book!”

Welder Wildlife Foundation

“I once went here as a kid for an overnight school field trip and remember this place very fondly. I hope to see it again someday. I remember the gazebo where we ate our meals and walking into the tall grass field where we set up little traps for mice/rats where there was a lesson on the different species. I remember I had ended up catching a pygmy mouse and it being the only one in the group. I remember sleeping in the house with the bunk beds and the deer head hanging on the wall. I was maybe 11 at the time and am now 25. Forgot the name of this place till looking to move into the area from Houston.”
