“My husband and I think SHSU Charter School is a wonderful option for our family because they are merging a private school concept and a public school concept into one. What makes them different is that SHSU Charter is a tuition free school that is NOT benchmark and STAAR driven. They are getting back to the needs of the whole child by offering smaller class sizes and a more personal environment with hands on curriculum enhanced by SHSU College of Education professors. They have a year round program with intercessions following each six week grading period which is nice for families who like to travel during the off seasons. (There will actually only be 170 instructional days for students during the 2017-2018 school year which we have noticed is less than other schools in the surrounding districts.) SHSU Charter School is also offering a robotics enrichment program and will be something new and interesting for our children to experience. We feel that our children will be less likely to “fall through the cracks” and will be more likely to succeed in a smaller learning environment where it will be easier to really connect with other students and staff and develop a strong feeling of belonging to something great. Teachers are certified with years of teaching experience and administrators are seasoned educators in both classroom and administrative settings. The faculty are all very warm and welcoming. The teachers have all known or worked for the principal for years and have followed her to the new school. That makes me, as a parent, feel confident about the teachers' level of commitment and honestly, I think it speaks volumes about Mrs. O'Neal's character that her staff thinks so highly of her to want to do so. We are excited about what SHSU Charter is offering and see this as an opportunity to receive the advantages of a private school without the high price tag that comes with it.”

“Great church with beautiful architecture and stained glass! I came here for mass and an event and both were nice. The church itself was large and beautiful. The gym where the event was held was a little beat up, but was still a great spot for an event. The campus itself is quite large. Aside from the one event, I don't know if I'd ever have any reason to go back.”

“Oakmont is so amazing from the moment you walk into that daycare you are warmly greeted and it feels like home. Brittany has her hands full and still makes sure everyone that walks through those doors is treated respectfully and lovingly. You can tell that all of the teachers here love the children and really care for their future and growth. The teacher Mrs. Ashley is very knowledgeable in what her kids need and want she makes sure that the class is fun but also that her kids really learn.”

“I had, hands down, the coolest group of ESS teachers during my elementary school years (1997-2001). I learned how to draw and so much more from these guys and girls. Summer ESS was so eventful for me as a kid, everyday there was a list of awesome things to do, all planned out. We all would chill in the empty classrooms and build forts out of the desks, and do whatever the hell we wanted....to an extent. I wonder where these people are now... Mr.Scott, the man with the soulpatch and sunglasses that taught me how to draw chrome reflections on text. Or Mr.Gray, the guy that had a comic book in the makings about the four horsemen of the apocalypse that rode motorcycles. Or ms.brittany i think? The lady that stayed late with us after my brother and I had our babysitter completely forget to pick us up. Yeah she put the simpsons on and fed us hot dogs for dinner. Oh, and it was pretty cool knowing some of the punk band, Agent 51, watched over a bunch of elementary school kids. All of them had such a big impact on who i am now and its crazy how fast they left my life. I wish i could meet them all again and see if they remember me, cause i will never forget them.”
