Jackson M. Abbott Wetland Refuge

Address: 5000 Pole Rd, Alexandria, VA 22309, USA

Park

“This is a lovely little wetlands park. There is a short walk to a small pond populated with turtles, geese and ducks. There is a path around the pond and there are fishing platforms at the pond. Great place to come with kids who always love seeing all the turtles, and a great birding location. At the end of the pond, across the path, there is a viewing platform out to the wetlands.”

“Best deal on sail boat rental anywhere from DC to NYC...soloed Flying Scott again and really enjoyed exploring all the way to the National Harbor... The attentive staff noticed when my center board had a disagreement with a sandbar I didn't know about, and a skiff spontaneously appeared out of nowhere to tow me back into deeper waters!”

“Formerly Lamond Park, this hidden 18 acre park is co-maintained by Fairfax County and the Villamay homeowners' association. There is limited street parking available on the residential streets bordering the park. The park contains a playground, hiking trails, picnic tables, creek fishing, and a dilapidated, somewhat dangerous mansion and grounds that had been formerly rented out for parties. It's a great place to walk dogs, take a short hike, or just sit and watch nature.”
