Hammerdown Barbecue

Be aware that this restaurant closes very early, you may be surprised if you're coming from the suburb area. My friends and I came here at 7:30pm on a saturday and there were no cars in the parking lot when we pulled in. Then we saw the sign that they were closing at 8pm and obviously there was no customers in the restaurants. The staffs were cleaning up. We quickly put in our orders which pretty much consisted of every kind of meat on the menu.

My favorite was definitely the brisket which was smoky, fatty, and tasty. It's probably the best brisket I've had in VA so far. The chicken was also really flavorful, I think this was the group majority's favorite. Though the sausage was disappointing as it was very dry and tough. Side dishes were also not good. One of my friends described the mac n cheese as "Kraft mac n cheese".

I'll definitely be back for the brisket whenever I'm in the area. Not sure if the quality of the sides had to do with the time we got there as they were probably sitting in the warmer for a long time. I hope they will be better when I come back during the day, but the brisket and chicken would be enough to satisfy me.

The brisket I got was very tender, but the brisket sandwich I got was a little skimpy. It was about $10. It has a nice atmosphere, and a nice patio in case you're interested in sitting outside. When I stopped by, it was very crowded and about ten people just left because it took too long. Good food overall. I'll stop by later when it isn't so crowded.

Party of 4, this is set up like a fast food place. Order at the line and they assemble and then you pay at the cashier. Brisket, chicken and sausage sandwiches were all good. Spicy squirrel sauce is just right. Mac and cheese was bland. Collard greens and green beans tasted great. Not too much vinegar in anything. Great beer selection. Not cheap but also high value. They have outdoor seating. A hand washing sink is in the dining room to clean up after your ribs, nice touch. I will be back. I heard they sell out every day so everything is fresh. Get some.

Came here for the first time today. Love the atmosphere, the food, oh the sausage are to die for.

The pulled chicken is at least a 4 out of 5 stars. They have earned a new friend out of me.
