Indian Lake County Park

My mom and I enjoyed 5 miles of hiking this afternoon (one 3.1 mile trail and a second just under 2 mile trail). We knew it would be hilly but also mostly shaded on the hilly parts which is what we were looking for. My husband and I have enjoyed the not so hilly trail along the lake previously both for a walk and years ago cross-country skied around the lake.

This was our second time coming here. The first time we went hiking all together and took pictures of the scenery. There were a group of high schoolers with their cap and gowns taking pictures. They were using one of the shelters. This time we split up half of us just sat by the lake and enjoyed the view. While the other half hiked the longest blue trail. The trails were well marked. There were maps at every intersection to send you on your way. They were expanding the trails. I am looking forward to seeing what they add.

With 45 min drive from Madison this parks provides a very good location for family picnic. The big shelter with picnic tables next to the indian lake provides a nice location. There's a small hike to nearby hill with a old chappel built in 1857. You need to be prepared for the bugs during bug season. There are other walk paths in the park as well.

Well kept, lots to do. I wish the warming shelter was open.

This is one of Dane County's best parks offering a diversity of activities. Beautiful topography including wooded hills, meadow, marshland and lake. It offers both easy or difficult hiking mainly through shaded woodland. It has groomed trails through a grassland for exercising dogs. This dog area would benefit with shaded rests areas too! A great park.
