“I should start by saying that I very seldom enter comments or ratings unless someone goes far beyond my expectations. That is the case with Murphy Funeral Directors. I have had very little experience with the loss of a loved one, only having ever lost my father several years ago. Living far away from my dad, I had very little to do with the planning of the service and other details. When my brother passed suddenly, living in the same town, I was responsible for all the arrangements. Mike Murphy, owner of Murphy Funeral Directors, helped in so many ways. His focus was always on our family and our needs. My brother’s service was not the only service he was helping with at the time yet he always had time to answer any questions and arrange everything perfectly. Michael Murphy and his caring staff made it possible for me to focus on my friends and family rather than all the little details. Thank you for all your help and support.”

“My elderly mother and I shopped at various flooring stores to find just the right kind of porcelain tile for the first floor of her home. We had stopped by Pacific Flooring a few times and were given excellent service and help with this process. On the second visit, we met one of their sales people, Dane who was very attentive and helpful with our search for the right tile. On our next visit, my mother decided and bought the entire tile requirements for her first floor and left her money pouch on the counter without either of us realizing it. The next morning at home, she realized she lost her money, her plastic, her id, everything profoundly important to her. This was a moment of sheer panic because of the possibility that her money, id, etc could have been stolen, ending up in the wrong hands. I remember our visit to Pacific Flooring the day before and immediately called the store and Dane answered the phone and promptly told me he had her money pouch and tried to contact us the day before. We drove at once back to Pacific Flooring and, relieved, thanked Dane for his incredible honesty, integrity, and decency for what he did. My mother thankfully offered him $100 for his decency but he instantly declined. This one incredible act of decency and integrity is more than enough to not only make us loyal customers to this store but to restore our faith in humanity. It is a relief to know that there are still decent and good people in this world like Dane. Not only does this store offer the best tile in Las Vegas but they employ the best people a patron could hope to meet. Thanks Pacific Flooring for your great products and the great people who work there.”

“A wonderful old cemetery with a great view. Even though it has graves dating back to the late 18th Century, new burials still take place there. It’s important to remember that other visitors you see may be visiting the recently deceased so please be respectful. Likewise, many of those buried are the family members of local residents. Like much of Harpers Ferry, the cemetery is living history. Some interesting things about the cemetery: - There’s a Revolutionary War soldier buried there. His grave was lost for many years and only recently rediscovered during ongoing preservation work. - There are a number of graves belonging to members of several fraternal orders and many of their gravestones feature highly detailed symbolism that makes them very interesting to study. While some of the symbols are still in use, others have been forgotten. Take the time to look carefully as many contain hidden details that may surprise you. - You can be buried at the cemetery. The cemetery website has information about the plots for sale. The trustees of the cemetery also ask that temporary visitors refrain from standing, sitting, leaning or rubbing on the monuments. The exposed location of the cemetery combined with the winter weather and frost heaves cause unseen damage causing some monuments to break very easily. There are efforts underway to stabilize the monuments, but it’s a time consuming and expensive process. While visiting you may see some monuments laying flat on the ground and broken into several pieces. The monuments sometimes break and fall to the ground in one or two large pieces. However those in many pieces are the result of people standing on the fallen parts. Really. Please don’t do that. The restorations cost thousands of dollars and are paid for by donation. Please report any vandalism you witness to the police immediately. The cemetery is NOT part of the National Park and is maintained by volunteers. Please practice Leave No Trace in the cemetery.”
