“With a dearth of good BBQ in the area, this place is a nice sanctuary for those who love some southern style carnivorous fare. I've been here many times before and it never disappoints. The one area where they could improve is that they use low-grade bread for their sandwiches. If Popeyes can make a lauded roll, so can the little guy. I got the brisket sandwich with mashed potatoes and mac n' cheese and my friend got a pulled pork sandwich with two sides of his own. I brought a heartier appetite and devoured my food whereas my friend couldn't muster the spirit, leaving his sandwich half-eaten. Nothing here is ever the best I've ever had but it's always good enough and to give a real proper review, I should try some of the other items on the menu. By the way, a great lunch stop for a quick bite if you're working in the area. Food comes at you before you can sit down. No bad meats here.”

This place is special, great facilities and services in front of the beautiful Chickahominy river with easy access to the James and Chesapeake but not crowded like other rivers and lakes in VA. Awesome restaurant with outdoor seating in front of the docks with even better staff! Everyone is so nice and welcoming. We took our boat out for the first time and Calvert (owner) was actually waiting for us and helped us dock and secure the lines when we got back. After a few times here, it hits you. This is how it is all the time, they treat you like family and is clear they put a lot love and hard work into this awesome place. Our family is so happy we found this gem. I wish I could give them more stars!”

“A beautiful and historic country club on lovely grounds. They have both a friendly and professional staff. There is a piano both upstairs and downstairs, multiple fireplaces, and multiple bars. They feature what looked like a very nice pool, though I wasn't able to check it out due to the inclement weather. Arnold Palmer is featured extensively throughout, both in pictures and in name. I appreciated the fresh cut flowers throughout the building!”

“This place serves great clean food... Not greasy, nor over salted like some other restaurants. I hadn't been here since the pandemic and I'm glad they are still around. Service seems to be quick and accurate. I will come back in the fall and try out the outside patio. The only reason I didn't give the full five stars is that I'm not okay with dogs- especially if not service animals - eating inside the restaurant. Outside in the patio I'm cool with. “Was finally able to try this spot. When we got here the parking lot was full, we were greeted and seated quickly, there is plenty of seating but gets busy so may have a short wait depending on when you arrive. The staff was friendly, the drinks and food came out super fast, the chips and salsa is good and the food is tasty. I will be back when I really hungry and order the molcajete. It looked and smelled delicious.”

“What can be said about street tacos? Good ones are meaty, spiced, and dressed in cilantro and onions. This place checks all the taco boxes, but what makes this taco place special are the people. The elder duo that runs the register and kitchen are kind, personable, and love making great tacos. Small conversations about the food and how it taste brought smiles all around. I visited twice before writing this review, and I would be remiss if I didn't come back for more. This place definitely deserves more attention for its tacos and workers. “Theresa at Ashley's Pastry Shop saved the day in spectacular fashion! When my oven stopped working the morning of my wife's birthday, I had to figure out how to carry on the tradition of a German chocolate cake for my wife. I was relieved when Theresa answered the phone and assured me I could pick up a cake around 2:00 P.M. that day. My wife LOVED the cake, so not only did my wife have a delicious cake on her birthday, I may get out of baking her a cake every year. Win Win! Ashley's Pastries is the best! “We stopped in for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon and were sat at a bay view window (which was lovely). We both started with the Crab Soup (which was creamy, delicious and had several bits of crab in it - pictured). We each had the Fried Seafood Combo, which came with one Fried Flounder, one Fried Crab Cake, 3 Fried Shrimp and 3 Fried Oysters with a side of Onion Rings (pictured). The oysters were plump and juicy and the three shrimp were a good size also. There was plenty of food on the combo, but we did not feel like it was worth the $43 price tag. We came too early to try their famous sweet potato biscuits (as they said they started making those for dinner, starting around 4 pm).”

The steak I was expecting to be really small and not very good, I ordered rare. By the time I got home to Patterson I dug in. That was one of the best steaks and still cooked perfect.
