That's coming from my perspective as a veteran who's been out for a minute and I'm just on base now that they let disabled veterans come on base to go to the Navy exchange! If you're an active duty sailor and you're on substance in kind and you have to eat there every day you might not like it. But for me when I come to visit the base it's like a special nostalgia to eat there! In fact I brought my boys down to watch the super bowl and they let us push tables together and plug in my boys laptops and stuff and it was a lot of fun!”

I ordered the Oxtail plate with mac and cheese and green beans. Yellow rice comes with it. We had sweet tea to drink. I was pleasantly surprised at the deliciousness of the food. The Oxtails were super tender and flavorful, complimented by the yellow rice. They tasted like how I cook my own back home in Memphis. The mac and cheese was savory and cheesy. The green beans were rightly seasoned. I was doubly pleased with the portion sizes. When I got back to the hotel, I told everyone I knew about this down home soul food establishment. I will be back.”

The entrée also included a small dish of baked cinnamon apples that complimented the pork chops perfectly. Gabriel was a fantastic, young server who didn't miss a beat. “So this is a newish micro sized BK, it can't be more than a couple of years old. I swear this place was so clean and shiny when I visited on a recently that I thought it had been planted and grown overnight. It's a bit off the beaten path as it's located at the very top part of Newport News just before you get to Yorktown. I was on my way to Richmond to do some photography at Belle Isle and we decided to stop and get some breakfast. The location for this BK worked really well for us because there's so little at this exit that we were able to hop off I64 and pull into the parking lot a couple of moments later. The only other business nearby is a 7-11. Since they was no traffic we were the only customers at that point and were able to walk in and order right away. The staff was friendly and everyone was wearing masks and observing social distancing, etc. While the dining room was open, there was no one eating within. We ordered our breakfasts and decided to take them back to the car and just stood outside and enjoyed the morning air while we ate. I haven't had a BK breakfast in quite a long time and found my croissant was was excellent. I had a side of tots and a cup of coffee to round out the meal. There were no trash cans in the parking lot so I returned inside to throw the bag away when we were finished. This was a great little BK from what I've experienced. I'm likely to stop here again on my way to Richmond in the future.”

“Everywhere else packed, I came to this place as a walk-in at the bar, and was immediately welcomed. The bar is great: there is more than enough selection of draft beers, wine and liquor. The menu is quite diverse. While prices may seem a little high, in my experience they are commensurate with other restaurants in the area. Most importantly, the food is LEGENDARY to say the least. “Nice people who owns this restaurant. The only thing I ever purchase is broccoli with white rice, the broccoli extra soft. Whenever the owner sees me or if I call she knows exactly what I want and she doesn't make me purchase a certain amount of food in order to receive delivery. The only thing I don't really care for is when I order my broccoli with garlic sauce, it doesn't taste like garlic sauce to me it tastes like some type of sweet red pepper flakes sauce. It's still good though just not what I expect garlic sauce like.”
