With the support of local black artists, and so many offerings within The Healing Arts Ministry, this place is most definitely a NEW FOUND HOME AWAY FROM HOME! Have been following their newsletter for many months familiarizing ourselves with what they offer and when we heard that there was a monthly open mic that definitely sparked our interests! Writing is an art form and it was such a pleasure to get on that stage and share our words with others. It was a quaint group with a little over 10 performers. We enjoyed the writing prompts and the time that we were given to jot down ideas. This event will be our go-to, as it is a safe, inclusive place to share our words with all. (Not only that, this open mic was different than the rest, in that the co-host was celebrating her bday.) If we're not mistaken her name was Shelly? EVERY WORD SPOKEN touched our hearts. The inspiration, the rawness, the depth...she combined it all in a way that touched every orifice of our being. We truly enjoyed the mixture of multi media compositions including: dance, music, fire, spoken word, digital flower visuals and the POWER OF THE SWORD. It was such an honor to experience this with her. HER ONENESS! HER CLARITY! HER PASSION! The journey in which she has partaken in, is one that we will never EVER forget! Her words we will never forget, each one wrapped around this body like the veins.COMPOUND WE WILL NEVER FORGET! Thank you THANK YOU for this gift. Thank you for reawakening our own self love! (The flowers that you gave to the audience members have been placed in the center of our altar, and will be dried and kept as a memory of you.) As Shelly says "Hovering near love is a habit not a vow. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. All my worst pain came from not trusting my truth." “Based on my experience with the adjacent bar called The Hideout, my expectations were low and I was more looking forward to trying this place and to be done with it than the pizza itself. I'm very happy I enjoyed my pizza. I got the Mikey's pizza to go which was a little over $18 with tax. Seemed kinda high, but it does come with four toppings and they were pretty generous with them. The thin crust is hand tossed: not sure if this adds value to the taste, but it did add value to the prep. All pizzas are 14" and I don't believe they offer other types of crusts. I have a couple of suggestions for the decor: You need a good sign. One at the end of the parking lot pointing to the restaurant and another outside the restaurant above the door. If I hadn't been here before, I would have assumed that Ikey's was no more since I only saw signs for The Hideout. Also, don't use the dinning area as storage. Whatever is under the tarp by the front door needs to go. I could see myself going back if I was nearby, but couldn't help think of two other pizza places nearby and more on my way home that I enjoy more.”
