These trails are a good relaxing hike and the way they dip between the hills and along the washes makes it easy to forget that civilization is on the other side of that hill.
Lost Dog Wash is great - try some of the other trails to get away from the crowds. The best trailhead building in the Valley designed by Black Rock Studio.
When we ( my mom and me) arrived at the trailhead, there were a few stewards (basically a host of sorts) to greet us and help us decide the right trail to go on for an 80 year old and a little dog. It was a beautiful day and the trails were well marked and groomed. We enjoyed our hike very much!
Well marked trails. Easy to moderate. Quite a bit of loose rock on the trail. Be careful. Enjoyed the loop. Just wish people would not leave their trash for us to stumble upon. If you carry it in... pack it out! Also the blue poop bags along the trail is disgusting. Do you think your Mom will come clean up behind you? If you can’t pack it out, leave your dog at home!
There are so many good things I could say about this trail. There’s like four trails that you can take right off of the lost dog trail. Ring tail loop is what I normally do because it’s quick and easy and very good cardio before work every morning. And lost dog trail takes quite a bit longer but it’s a nice hike for anyone who has an hour or two to get there and back. Lost dog trail is fairly easy even though it’s almost all uphill. At the end it gives you a beautiful view of north Scottsdale. You could also make a half day out of your hike By going up lost dog trail to old jeep trail and going around through ringtail to get back to the front. It’s pretty cool how all the trails connect and you could take shorter routes are longer routes it all depends on how you’re feeling and how beautiful the day is I guess. There’s also a trail called Sunrise Trail that is about 4 miles long but definitely worth the uphill trip because the scenery is amazing. All the trails are beautiful over there and I never get tired of hiking those trails. And if you get lucky during the winter and it’s snowing it’s like a whole new trail it’s absolutely breathtaking to hike a desert full of snow!
