“A cozy, tucked away park that is surprisingly well shaded. It can get very hot here, so make sure to have plenty of water with you. The park is tucked up into the hills, so there are rattlesnake warnings posted and it's imperative to keep a watchful eye on any small children or dogs as they play. The play structures do not get much of any shade, and can get very hot during the summer months. Parents make sure to physically feel the play equipment to see that it's safe for use. Nice big grassy area for picnics and just enjoying the sun.”

Lots of information on the geology of the area as well. The preserve itself is rather small with only a few trails, but you can connect them to other trails to make it worth while. “Great family park. There is a water pad, playground, baseball diamond and exercise area. There are covered picnic tables. They have a rec center with sports sign ups. This is a great place to sign up if your little ones aren't yet into big organized sports or are just trying their hand at a new sport. The Easter egg hunt is fun. My kids enjoy the free summer lunches and movie nights. What I like most is that the playground always has other kids for my children to play with. Most of the families frequent often enough that you can become familiar with them. It's a welcoming fun place to be.”

“We should've taken pictures.... But there are times and places where even a picture cannot contain such grandeur. She stood up on the rail facing pch.... and as I held her by her hips, I told her to spread her arms and close her eyes.... As the wind blew through her dreadlocks and the pachouli swept from her skin and into my soul* she opened her eyes, and all she could see was everything.... She felt like one of the birds of the sky soaring above the Pacific ocean from Malibu to R.A.T. Beach.... She climbed down from the rail and into my arms.... And then it was my turn. I flew too. This is Our Spot... It can be urs too.????????✌️????????”

Smith Mountain Trailhead

Address: Azusa, CA 91702, USA

Park

“We just got in from a hike to the Wilderness sign. Plenty of parking on a Saturday evening. They say its 3 miles but it feels longer. Lots of switch-backs and a narrow path. Make up is loose gravel, dirt and rocks. Uphill for the majority of the climb but has some downhill to give U a break. Great scenic rock spots to sit and take in the view. Of course the shady spots coincide with the time of day. (a bench or 2 at the top would be nice) Theres a few trails branching from the top if youre feeling especially adventurous! My Bro was able to reach a distant rock peeking outta the trees. I wasnt wearing proper footwear for the incline. Without proper gear the clearing a should be your safe limit to climb. Came back down the same side. East. Its a pretty fast pace you can pick up so mind your momentum. We descended at nite with flashlights which was super fun..”

Andora trailhead

Address: 9861 Andora Ave, Chatsworth, CA 91311, USA

Park

“This is the lower entrance to Santa Susana State Park. There is parking along the street. Picnic tables to eat upon. The trail gradually goes up hill from this spot into the Santa Susana Mountains. The most popular goal is the Stagecoach trail. This trail follows the old stagecoach road out of the San Fernando Valley to Simi Valley. It terminates at the Lilac trailhead at the top of the park. There is a toilet here, but I always find it locked.”
