“Has a very nice picnic area with a basket ball court and a play area for children. Will be much nicer when the trees have grown enough to give shade. Very hot in the summer. Would be AWESOME if they would damn up the river again for swimming. Then it would be perfect”

“Hidden little park. Docents explained some of the history of the property, having been owned by the family who created Sunset magazine as I understood it. A few easy short walking trails. We spotted some deer and wild turkey wandering around the picnic area. Did not bring a picnic but would be a good place for one, perhaps bringing some food from the bakery up the street.”

“Amazing beach to enjoy the ocean with not a lot of people around. Visited on a Saturday afternoon and we had a whole section of beach to ourselves. Saved as one of our favorite places to visit!”

“One of the best places to go for a bike ride. There are few trails to choose from but they are some of the best in the state. Always amazingly maintained by the local bike shops. Made for most riders - from newbies to advanced. Lots of climbing thought and E-bikes re not allowed.”

“I was impressed with all aspects of the sales process. I had the pleasure of visiting the forest and was delighted with the beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Max provided me with a wealth of information in advance and Alicia was a wonderful, patient guide. The whole experience could not have been better. I am also thrilled to have trees planted in our name elsewhere in California. Highly recommend!”

“Tucked away park in a neighborhood of Boulder Creek with a swimming hole with rope swing. There's a grassy area in front of a covered pavement area where bands were playing when I visited for a local radio show fundraiser and performance day. Small section of tables is off to a side. There is a water shower feature to rinse off if you want for after a swim in the creek. Beautiful, tall redwood and assorted oak trees surround the park.”

“Sometimes I'll come here during the day to cook or park my car and stay overnight. You are not supposed to, but it is one of the safer spots along the beach. The scenery is incredibly beautiful. The walk down is very steep. They have vaulted toilets that are usually pretty clean. No running water. Sometimes a stream though.”

“I enjoyed this placed. It's beautiful with mild hikes and nice picnic areas. They charge 8 dollar per vehicle and also have kayaks and rowing boats for rental. There is fishing allowed too but you need to buy a fishing license. There is plenty of parking and staff was friendly. Recommended!”

“Cant say enough about this great recreational resource. I just wish you could bring your own boat. I totally understand why. California's lakes are having an issue with an invasive species of muscle. Beautiful peaceful place.”

“Very pristine beaches with panoramic vistas and views. The cool Pacific breeze wishing through the cliffs made the experience surreal. The road was well paved and easy to travel with each winding curve another scenic view was revealed.”

“Really enjoyed the self guided nature trail. All the history and natural history really made all the vistas come alive.”

“Alder Camp is less than two miles from the coast. You need a reservation and spots are first come first served. Many use Alder as an final stop on the Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail, but you can also park in a lot near the coast and hike/bike in from Hwy 1. (You might have to open and close the gate at Hwy 1 to access the parking lot.) Several of the spots are very close together and not very private. Fires are not allowed. There is no drinking water available. There are trash cans and a pit toilet. There are no tables. Bear boxes are available. See my panorama accompanying this Google Maps listing to get a feel. The creek runs along the campground and is easily accessible. There’s a clearing between several sites where stargazing is very possible on clear nights. Sites close to the pit toilet might have to deal with that smell. At least during dry weather, the ground is very dusty. In some places it’s so deep that it’s almost like you’re at the beach. This was perhaps the most significant downside to this campground. Note that Twin Redwoods campground is extremely close to Alder. Just a few minutes walk. Before leaving Alder I looked at Twin Redwoods and it seemed superior in terms of campsite spacing and privacy.”

“Not a far hike to backpack in. Had some good cleared areas to place tents. Beautiful area with creek nearby. Clean outhouse, garbage and recyclable disposal, and lockbox for food.”

“Great place to get away and enjoy some nature. Plenty of hiking trails and views that overlook the ocean. Beware of some of the critters. Driving on the roads isn't terrible, but there are a few that are sketchy, especially after a lot of rain.”
