“What a great place to call home. The community is absolutely stunning. The clubhouse, pool, fitness center, two dog parks add so much value. The residents and owners of the community have strong pride in ownership. The entire community management team welcomes everyone. I truly feel grateful and blessed to be a part of this community.”

Holiday Motel Oakdale

Address: 950 E F St, Oakdale, CA 95361, USA

Lodging

“It's a little expensive in my experience, which is 15+ years working for various hotels across the country. The rooms are clean, but old. The bathroom shower was missing the grab bar and lots of cracked floor tiles. The towels were obviously really old and small and there was only 2 for a 4 person room (2 double beds). The floors in the room were dirty. Vacuumed but not well. After getting out of the shower and walking around barefoot for about an hour my feet were black. The beds were rickety, one way too soft and worn and the other pretty hard, but springy. Decent newer flat screen TV, satellite, clear and crisp which is better than I'd expect from a small motel like this. The AC didn't work very well and took forever to get the room barely cool, but it's probably 20+ years old. The pool area was clean and the water perfect on a hot day. But the employees were very nice, friendly and helpful. They brought us more towels promptly and on a 107° day kept the pool open all night even though it's normally closed at 9. Check in was fast and pleasant. Parking was tight, not suited for large vehicles so no rvs or trailers, but it wasn't awful. I've stayed in worse and taking the age of the building into consideration it wasn't bad. Guests were quiet, I felt safe and the employees were great. But I would have expected to pay less than $100 for this place, not $120. But I'd recommend it if you need a quick stay. And it's right off the main road close to food.”

New Beginnings Mobile Home & RV Park

Address: 11250 Barstow Rd, Lucerne Valley, CA 92356, USA

“Great, quiet park. Mostly seniors, but they accommodated me and I'm in my 20's. A lot of the reviews on here are from people that shouldn't have been in the park to begin with. Just follow his rules and don't bother your neighbors and you'll have a great stay. All the neighbors are friendly, will smile and wave, but won't come on your property or try to bother you. Overall a nice stay. And it's cheap! If you need a place to help get you on your feet, this is about as cheap as it gets for Southern California. Beautiful mountain views.”

Crones Cobblestone Cottage

Address: 1302 Washington Pl, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Lodging

“We had a wonderful 3-day stay at Cobblestone Cottage in October 2016. This is a 100+year old restored historic Craftsman home that is in a wonderful old residential district close to everything we enjoy: a quiet place to relax but within walking distance, to friendly and delicious restaurants. We had close proximity to Balboa Park museums and the Globe Theater, and easy access to all of San Diego. Our hostess, Joan, was most cordial and treated us as honored guests. We definitely would recommend this 'Cottage', and we hope to return there again next year.”

The Harper House Accomodations

Address: 1562 Waller St, San Francisco, CA 94117, USA

Lodging

“I stayed in the Monet room at Harper House for 3 months over the summer while carrying out a research stay at UCSF. It was the perfect base for me, I enjoyed the proximity to the Golden Gate park, shops on Haight street, the bike path "the wiggle", UCSF shuttle buses from Parnassus, and the N-line going into the city centre. The room is very quiet, facing an interior yard, and the bed is super comfy. I had everything I needed with the kitchenette and my own bathroom. I also really enjoyed relaxing on the terrace and in the yard. The owners, Ted and Leah, made me feel at home right from the beginning, were really accomodating, and gave me so many great recommendations for exploring the city. Highly recommend!”

Riverkern Lodge

Address: 153 Cowbelle Blvd, Kernville, CA 93238, USA

Lodging

“Beautiful property, I strongly suggest choosing this place to stay with your family or large group of friends. Has two floors, and a HUGE basement with a pool table, foosball table, dart board, and some couches. Also has a basement bar that you can use but looks under construction still. I rented the place through the VRBO app and there you can see more photos of the interior, beautiful architecture and big windows with a beautiful view to the mountains. They provide you with clean blankets and sheets. Only down side I can think of is that maybe the cleaning service could improve a little bit since some parts of the house where dusty, also the garden area and like I said the basement bar are still under construction, or at least that’s how it looks. You can’t use the garage but there’s enough parking for everyone on the drive way and on the side of the road. Overall my family had a GREAT TIME here and we are considering coming back some day.”

Down-to-Earth EcoShire

Address: 41051 Cactus Valley Rd, Hemet, CA 92544, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“Welcome to Hemet, California where you are surrounded by desert mountains, boulders, and a big open sky. Just a little over two hours from Los Angeles and about an hour and a half from San Diego heading east, we drove onto Jim and Dawn's Ecoshire. Our hosts have created an oasis nestled in the hills from the reclaimed land they acquired. The property is being used as an educational ground for permaculture practices and self-sustaining, eco- friendly structures. If you want to learn how to reuse water and provide your own solar energy, be sure to ask Jim as he can take you around the property and teach as you go. We arrived as the sun went down and the full moon started to rise up. As you walk through part of the 35 acres of land, you may hear neighboring horses and cows. As the sun goes down, you will hear the owls and the resident coyotes in the night. Our site was cozy and nestled in front of a hill. The emphasis on community can be felt as the vision is well underway at the Ecoshire with communal buildings. You will find an old boxcar that is being restored with reclaimed materials. They have turned it into a beautiful bathroom with a well-lit shower. Rustic luxury in the desert, simple yet sustainable. In the morning, we walked through the Peace Garden and ate our fresh picked snap peas and added new starts to the garden as well. The hens provided eggs for our morning scramble and everything from our breakfast was harvested on site. If you are lucky Jim and Dawn will share some of their delicious home-brewed mead with you! They plan on expanding their operation, as it is very environmentally friendly and will bring more honey bees to the land. If you want a desert oasis experience with a wild, wild west feel, AND get a bit of inspiration out of the whole thing be sure to visit the Ecoshire.”

As the sun rises it streams in through the front windows which is really nice, but go out and sit on the spacious deck with a cup of coffee or other beverage – even better!
