Earth Island Medicinal Herb Garden

Address: 1098 McAndrew Rd, Ojai, CA 93023, USA

Park

“A place to commune with the plants, a place of education, and a place of natural beauty, the Earth Island Herbs Garden is a very special place not to be missed on a trip through Ojai! Beyond the garden lies the guiding source of light and life, Mama Earth, Carol Wade, has been the driving force of this magical place. Here, garden tours/medicinal walks are conducted by Carol, showcasing medicinal plants and the body systems they are highly revered in, giving you a clear insight as to how you can integrate plant medicine into your own life. There are also wonderful examples of sustainable gardening and eco friendly solutions to cultivating your own garden shade and mindful way of living at home. In addition to the garden itself, Carol offers herbal studies certification programs for all levels throughout the year, retreat experiences, and so much more.”

Pumpkin Patch at Limoneira Ranch

Address: 12471 Foothill Rd, Santa Paula, CA 93060, USA

Park

“As a person who grew up in Thousand Oaks, I loved going to Underwood Farms every year to get pumpkins. Recently it feels like it's lost its identity as a family farm and feels more like Disneyland in its early years. Limoneira has taken the throne as the best place to go. It reminds me of what I loved at Underwood without the insane prices. My daughter loves it. Especially the petting zoo. You can get up close and pet all sorts of animals. Pro tip: talk to the kids handling the animals. They can offer lots of fun info.”

Mount Rubidoux Park

Address: 4706 Mount Rubidoux Dr, Riverside, CA 92501, USA

Park

“The paved pathway to the top of Mt Rubidoux makes the walk safe and enjoyable and follows the Leave No Trace principle of traveling on durable surfaces. The old dirt trails were nice but were often washed away and people doing shortcuts through areas off trail caused issues with the trails so staying on the wide paved pathway is good all the way around. The pathway is wide enough that faster walkers won't be hampered by slower walkers, strollers can be used for small children, and it is safe.”

Mt. Rubidoux Peak

Address: Mt, Rubidoux Peak, Riverside, CA 92501, USA

Park

“There are great views from the top of the mountain of Riverside especially downtown as well as a large portion of the inland empire as a whole. The cross and the flag at the top are very picturesque and make for a good ending to a hike.”

“Nice place to take our newly dog and get her used to human and dog activity. There's great models of dog-owner partnership for her to see. 1 mile walking route is paved and well lit. Great activity at the base of Mt. Rubidoux. Athletics fields are wide and available for use. Great plant life and well kept grounds. Nice.”

Tequesquite Community Garden

Address: Santa Ana River Trail, Riverside, CA 92506, USA

“This is a riverside community garden that allows residents to have a plot of land for $50 a year ($10 membership + $40 for each plot, up to 3 plots). The watering systems are in place or they can help you set them up in your own way. It's great to teach kids how to grow food or for people who live in apartments who have no garden space. The people in charge are very friendly and knowledgeable.”

“A pretty place to visit. This property is part of the State Park system, and we were surprised to stumble on it. A former resort hotel, this property was reached by a small gauge railroad. Hiking trails with interpretive signage cris-cross the steeply inclining property. Great views of the bay below. Plenty of parking.”

Black Mountain Trail

Address: Cristo Rey Dr, Los Altos, CA 94024, USA

Park

“Perfect for trail run but parking is horrible. I park a mile away and run from there to avoid the frustration of not getting a parking spot. I actually like that better, because I can add a total of 2 miles on my run. It is a really lovely place to run; we usually run on Woods Trail, Umumhum, Santa Teresa, and Quicksiver. This is one of my of my favorite runs when I can do it :) There are plenty of trails so it's easy to decide if you want a long one or a short one, tough or easy. There are also nice restroom facilities which is a plus as not all Open Space Reserves have restroom facilities. If you haven't checked it out, do it, you won't be disappointed. I gave it a 4 star because of the parking issue...”

It is also good for children, there is an open meadow where children and dogs can play openly. Plenty of parking available, also restrooms at various places. I would recommend to go even on weekends.”
