Kern River's Edge Campground Retreat

Address: 15775 Sierra Way, Kernville, CA 93238, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“I grew up here and never knew about this FAMILY OWNED AND OPERATED MUST SEE hidden gem till I moved home this summer. Horseshoes, frisbee golf, hot showers! Yes, please. Pleasantly surprised to know I now have a place to recommend my "newer to camping folks" , the borderline "glampers" (firewood, ice, beer delivered to site) or long time campers looking for a new experience where everyone can trust that even if they are inexperienced, either the owners or the on site Camp Host, Curtis, will gladly be your CAMP CONCIERGE and guide you through anything that comes up when needed. At Kern River's Edge you can trust you'll have a clean site, clean river front access, and peace when around the campfire at night for optimal storytelling and stargazing. While on the hunt for a summer gig that put me next to a campfire as much as possible, this camp became the winner. So yes, I work here, but the owners, Rhonda & John (Johndra as nobody calls them) are unaware of me writing this. (And that we call them Johndra). Because of a company name change they are rebuilding their campground brand from the ground up and thus rebuilding 34 years of ratings and reviews so I figured I'd get the ball rolling as this feedback is authentic and I'm only a part time weekend minimum wage employee who is really just doing it cause it's fun. They have placed many boundaries on their camp, including quiet hours, education on "leave no trace", and are glass free, (aka you and your kids can walk around barefoot). At first these seemed too much these rules, what am I at camp?! Yes, turns out. Now that I've seen it for a few months I get that this is what people come for, a place where your entire experience has been thought out from the time you land till the time you leave with the goal of helping people connect with nature and each other, this is a camp ripe for the making of Family Memories that you want to pass on from generation to generation. With only 6 employees and 3 of them being in the same family, if you are looking for a more personalized camping experience that's focused on connecting with nature first, this is your new go to spot. Get it before it blows up. While nearby camps have over 400 sites, Kern River's Edge floats happy with 40. See you here. -Andie, Camp Concierge P.S. they have an incredible outdoor venue that I'd love to see used more. Moving forward they are open to a lot more things, contact KRE with all your outdoor connection needs/desires now!”

Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground

Address: 44611 CA-38, Angelus Oaks, CA 92305, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“This spot a few miles up the dirt road from Heart Bar is a beautiful place to spend the weekend. It's not the cheapest campground (especially with so many free Yellow Post sites on the way there), but it is the best spot for a breathtaking view, a lot of space, and a toilet (although with the number of flies in the outhouse I would almost prefer squatting in nature). It's situated atop the Coon Creek Jumpoff with a spectacular view of the Coachella Valley, and the Pacific Crest Trail passes right by -- these are good things, but they do make for quite a few strangers passing through or parking at camp each day, which is a minor annoyance. Overall, it's an excellent choice for camping with a group out in the SB National Forest.”

Earl Warren Dog Park

Address: 4594 Paradise Knolls, Castro Valley, CA 94546, USA

Park

“We love it here. We usually come 4 days a week. It’s a great place for other social dogs to run and play. The regulars here are good people and look out for their dog/clean up after themselves. Shovels are provided to clean up and a shared water bowl/hose, although that gets pretty dirty quickly from dogs playing in it. A good tip is to bring your own bowl for your pup and use the hose to fill it up.”

Creekside Park

Address: 10455 Miller Ave, Cupertino, CA 95014, USA

“Viewed 2022 Fourth of July fireworks from this park. At night, the grass area is infested with flying beetles (not roaches). The playground has features enjoyable to older and younger kids (swings, Zipline, etc.)”

Lazy J. Ranch Park

Address: Valley Circle & Ingomar St, Canoga Park, CA 91304, USA

Park

“This park is spacious with walking trails spans almost an entire block. Expansive green area and very friendly kid playing zone with sandpits, swings, slides. Animals are not allowed in the kid playing area which is a good thing. The kids play area was recently constructed and donated by police s as a gift to the community for building a new development in West Hills. Though this park is.kifs, adult, animals friendly ..one.mahor draw back is there are no restrooms which makes it challenging. Overall is a nice nook.in West Hills.”

Machado Park

Address: 15150 Joy St, Lake Elsinore, CA 92530, USA

Park

“The soil here is amazing for grounding/ earthing. Silky smooth on the feet and between toes. Good shade, lots of trees, and green cool grass to lye out on & picnic. Nice park to chill at with fam or friends. Bummer tho dang bathrooms are always closed lately for a few months now. Hopefully they'll reopen them again soon. Cabanas, tables, bbq, trash cans, tennis courts, volleyball court, playground, bike/walk/run track. It's really a great park. Very well designed, and kept me nice & clean.”

Rod McLeod Park

Address: 1701 S Iris Ln, Escondido, CA 92026, USA

“Beautiful park 🌳 nicely maintained, plenty of parking. Bathrooms are usable in a pinch, though I was pleasantly surprised with there being soap in the soap dispenser. So, hand washing is doable. 🧼 Such a wonderful place to play and enjoy outside.”
