I don't climb but this place makes me want to. If you like parks and haven't been here, put it on your to-do list. Its one of the area's hidden gems. I especially like visiting when its snowy.
Love the views! Nice and plenty trails. Couldn't go up the park via sedan car because roads were too slippery in January. Definitely will revisit again for hiking.
Beautiful state park! Cost $9/car since prices went up for 2019. Parking gets pretty tight. We went on January 5 at noon and parking was packed. The road in the park is very narrow and can get muddy and icy. Half of the park doesn’t get sunshine so there’s lots of snow. Warm, water resistant footwear is advised. We took the Fowler Trail which is less than a mile. We got some beautiful views, keep following the trail once you get to the park boundary to get some awesome canyon photos.
One of our favorite places for family hikes. State park admission is $8 per car. We like the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail up to the old Crags hotel. Our kids (7 and 11) and our dog (must be on leash) can do this trail. It’s about 4.5 miles round trip. There are also other shorter trails and it’s got some epic views of the flatirons.
This place is great. There is an entrance fee, but it's definitely worth it. Some of the trails on the south side of the canyon get pretty icy, so I recommend planning for that with the proper footwear. Great rocky terrain and beautiful views. Can hike, bike, and climb depending on the trails you choose.
Please call ahead (303-494-3943) before visiting to determine if the park office is open and we can provide the service you require. We are short staffed due state budget cuts and a limited park operating budget.
