The entire shift -- lieutenant, firefighters and paramedics -- carefully educated the kids on fire safety and did everything they could to alleviate common fears children have regarding being rescued by someone wearing all the gear. Front-desk staff, CNAs, QMAPs, dining room staff, the resident services director, the executive director, the facilities crew, housekeeping, and the on-site hair stylist all treat residents in a manner that says, “I see you, and I care about you.” Yesterday I attended an outdoor concert/picnic for residents. Staff stayed overtime or left to pick up their grandchildren only to return to participate in what felt akin to a family reunion. At The Oberon House there is no passing the buck or obfuscation. Family members are informed of what’s happening on a regular basis and treated with the same respect afforded the residents.
