Metropolitan Community Church was the first church built by the gay community in North America. When the community came together and wanted a church space of its own, there were church properties for sale elsewhere in the District, but none of the owners of those other properties would sell them to the gay community for use as a church. The community instead had to build their own building from the ground up, and that is where the Metropolitan Community Church still is today.
During the peak of the AIDS epidemic, churches elsewhere in the District refused to hold funerals for deceased gay people. It was very difficult to find a place to be buried as a gay person in the District. The Metropolitan Community Church conducted funeral services for all people, regardless of whether the person was a member of its church. It became known as the only church in the District that would have a funeral service for a deceased gay person in the District.
Great church community and worship experience.
Great place
Wonderful loving, friendly faith community located in a beautiful award winning worship facility. Multi-generational, multi-ethnic, LGBTQIA affirming, and welcoming to all orientations. A great place to meet new friends, find or enrich your relationship with a Higher Power, and be who the best You that you can be. Please check us out on YouTube and Facebook (now) on Sundays at 9 or 11am, and visit in person at the ministry facility (after COVID).
A welcoming all inclusive church. Parking is a challenge as this church is surrounded by other churches in the middle of a neighborhood. You won't be disappointed.
