“This is in reply to the English chap and a general feedback. To the English transfer student ... Most students will think you are "cool" and will likely want to be your friend. Florida is a mix of US cultures and LOLHS tries to enforce a set of consistent boundaries but otherwise, let the kids grow through their own view. As a parent of a child that moved from out of state, I can definitively say that LOLHS is focused on academic success. Athletics survives mostly off of fundraisers, as does other non-academic activities such as Choir and Band. They have no Orchestra. This is a school of students from hard working blue collar and white collar mid-management families. Of course there is a wide distribution that includes wealthy and low-income, but the main bulk and therefore the main "culture" comes with a "earn as you go" mentality. With respect to the school administration, there is a strong leader in Mr. Mellin, LOLHS Principal, who seems to cut through the crap and get things done. Unfortunately, if you have to work with him then things have gotten pretty bad, or maybe you just have gotten super lucky and he is able to work with you. You will be able to find a group of friends if you want friends, or be left alone if that is your desire. There is bullying but much of that seems to be targeted towards students that have been there for many years and they know each other and have history. Like with most other public schools, some teachers are worthless in their jobs, but it seems that LOLHS has a higher percentage of teachers that actually care and invest in their students than other schools. I would estimate 8 out of 10 of your teachers will be good. Of course, that leaves 20% of them that should fired. But that is school politics, and that is the reason you go to Mr. Mellin if there is a real problem that is not getting resolved. The school is growing and building, every year and every grade seems to have its problems. Overall, the school focuses on the most important priority: getting students prepared for future careers and future education. Safe travels English chap :D”
